Honesty is the best policy here. Regardless of what some others have written here, you should return them. BUT, you should not have to pay for shipping to get them back to the place that sent them. Give them a call, tell them the situation let them know that you are not willing to pay for return shipping. Ask them to send a Call Tag. The delivery driver will return in the next few days and take the box. Here is why you should return them and not listen to the others:

PRICES GO UP AS A RESULT OF MISTAKES LIKE THIS!

Everyone who managed to get something for nothing, such as in your situation, contributes to rising costs. The reason game consoles are so expensive is because trucks full of them get stolen. Stores are stolen from. All of these things force the retailer to raise their prices to recoup their losses - they dont just eat the loss. So for all of you children who think its cool to steal from a store, and then complain about high prices--it's YOUR fault!

Now here is the good part: Shipping is expensive nowadays. There is a good possibility that the store will tell you just to keep the boots. Because by the time they pay for the return shipping, there profit may have been eaten up anyway. The difference between keeping the boots with no phone call and making the call is huge for the retailer. If they know the boots are missing (because you called them), they can defray their costs. If they dont know, they will find out during an inventory count, and by that time it may be too late to recoup.

Do the right thing and call them. Let them decide how they wish to handle it. Remember, the boots currently belong to them. If the roles were reversed, what would you do?

As a retailer, I would say "Merry Christmas, enjoy your boots," but thats just me.

Merry Christmas to you

please contact them. they may have intentionally sent them back, in which case you can use them without any guilt.

To take both would be unethical, immoral, bad karma and theft, other than that no problem.

I guess they made a mistake.Call them and let them know of their mistake and see what they say.

julia
Yeh, keep 'em, it's their mistake not yours! Merry Christmas.

Yes and No.
You should tell them you have them and ask them to arrange for their collection.
If they do nothing in, say, three months I think you are entitled to keep them.
On the other hand it seems you wanted to exchange the boots and you now have what you want, but they have made the refund in error.
This being the case they may recharge your card and there is not much you can do about it.

alan t
no you cant. you have to tell them that they have made a mistake,if you dint you can be prosecuted for theft.

well why did you send the boots back? if its because you didnt like them, give them to someone who does, you then need not feel guilty for keeping them and you have not spent any money but you have made someone happy, if its because of another reason and you dont have a guilty conscience then i dont see the harm!! x

I believe that legally you can...however because someone made a mistake, you should let them know.
If you sent the boots back, then you either didn't like them or they didn't fit....or they were the wrong colour...or they were damaged...
Question: why would you want to keep them?
My opinion is that you should morally send the boots back (not prepaid...but collect) and phone the company to let them know about the mistake...they MAY just say to keep them..and THEN, you won't have anything on your mind about doing something wrong...morally.

If you worked as a cashier and made a mistake by giving somebody too much money - would you want them top give it back? Or would you prefer to have it taken from your pay?

If you owned a business, would you want them to give it back?

As a customer, would you want the business to raise the prices they charge you so somebody else could take something for "free"?

And, if you contacted the business and told them of their mistake - they probably would tell you to just keep the boots. And you will stay a loyal customer of theirs for years.

phone the company and see what they say. If they say you can keep them, they're a nice company, Merry Xmas. If not, send them back and don't shop there again! (just kidding!)

~You can keep them, but they'll more than likely catch it later. Do you want your credit ruined over a pair of boots?
Merry Christmas~

What would you want your customer to do if you were the business owner and you accidently refunded the customer's money and sent the boots?

mstrywmn
The key word here is "exchange". Did they send the same boots back or a different pair? Some companies give you your money back & then rebill you when you do an exchange. If you want to keep them, expect another bill. If you're not sure, give them a call.

Read a pair of boots?
Yes of course, it's a 'good will gesture', they can't sell them as second hand so they would only go on the rubbish tip anyway.
