I thought there was already a law, and that it was set at 15 mph during school hours. A better law would entail an IQ of at least 100 for drivers, dismissing more than half the population.

Not a bad idea.

And maybe local boards should put schools away from super highways.

People drive to fast. They need to set up more of those cameras that catch you speeding and bill motorists in the mail.

That's a great way to raise money and a great way to get people to slow down.

We have a law here in our town in South East Missouri that when you by the Preschool and kindergarden center you go 5 MPH (our schools are all over town) when u go by grades 1-4 the speed limit is 10 MPH when you go past the 5 and 6 grade center speed limit is 15 MPH then when you go by the Junior high the speed limit is 20 MPH then finally the Highschool is 25 MPH. They did this in my town with raising the speed limit signs by grades is the higher the grades the more cautious they are you know what i mean? i think its really good the way they have the system set up here cause it makes them learn to always look instead of thinking o i can make that and then BOOM get hit.

In GA, there is a speed limit of 25 during school drop-off/pick-up times...big flashing lights and everything

I agree, and in Kentucky, where I live, there is such a law. Flashing signs telling you it's a school zone and a reduced speed limit. Same in Indiana and Illinois. The onyl exception I've seen is on a state highway where the usual limit was 55 and the school was about 300 yards off the road. The limit was 45, and there were loads of warning signs.

There have been 20 MPH speed limits around all grade schools in all of the states I have lived in.

You might want to look into local ordinances and find out why that either hasn't been put on the books where you live or why it isn't being enforced. If it isn't on the books and you are willing to take on the fight, I am sure you could find support among all of your local PTA groups to get it on the ballot. Can't think of any parents that I know that wouldn't be in favor of the reduced speed limit.

I'm not sure where you are, but in California the driving laws make you go 15mph or something in a school zone.

Well, in the state of Oregon the speed limit in a school zone is 20 mph. I'm really surprised that they don't have a speed limit where you are.

Law don't slow people down. educating them is much better. We have way too many laws as it is right now and still wanting to pass more in hopes that it will solve something. Educate....Don't legislate

I would assume you are not old enough to drive and haven't been paying attention while riding. School zones almost always have lowered speed limits, at least in the U.S.

I assume that you are not possessed of a driver's license yet, because you would know the basic laws of the road in that case.
Most school areas have slow zones set up with warnings not to exceed 5 mph up to 25 mph depending on where you are. In California, it's usually 25mph and there are blinking lights at those zones.
