I want to know if this is legal for the landlord to do?

This morning my landlord arrived and told me I need to be out by Saturday or he will call the police. He stated his reasons were i threatened to burn the house down, there was trash everywhere. My roomates told him that. that. As for the Trash there is not a waste disposal unit on the property. I have to walk down the street to use one. I live in Massachusetts and it is winter. I am not able to walk down the street when it is raining or snowing. I work during the day. I do not want to do it late at night as I do not want to disturb my neighbors. And it is on the property of his business which is open in the morning. I was also behind on my dishes. We also do not have a written lease. After he stated this I went to call one of my friends and he came in and asked me who you calling. i told him a friend. He said if you call the police I need to be here to listen. It is a lease at will.

no he can not do that.30 days then you can take another 30 days call hud

Pretty sure in every state you have to be given notice which is generally 30 days, it's unreasonable to ask someone to leave on short notice especially since they have lives and can't just up and leave. So even if you were the filthiest person alive they have to give you warning.

Your landlord would need to give you a 30-day notice to terminate your month-to-month lease with him. The only other way is for him to have a court order of eviction, which would probably take longer than 30 days. He can't force you to move.

most states require a 30 day notice.consider yourself served.there is no reason for trash everywhere.living like a slob in front of a mans business reflects bad on him.

He can't tell you how to clean your unit, unless it affects others in some way such as smell, so dishes are none of his business. If you don't have a lease, he can kick you out. BUT he has to give you 30 days. If you have no where else to go, let him serve you (the cops come and post an eviction notice.) then you have 30 days to be out from the time they gave you the notice. A lease protects both the land lord and tenant. Next time get one. You could be dirty like him and not pay your rent and then tell him you never had a written agreement. Good luck!

where i live if you don't have a lease it's called a month to month tenancy so if he wants you out he has to give you a 30 day notice and if you want out you have to give him a 30 day notice. there should be a gov. office that could advise you. look in fone book in the gov. section . look under "state gov." should be something bout housing.

the landlord needs to give you written notice, and if you fail to comply, you will be taken to eviction court...only a judge can evict you.
