This is the law. If monday was a holiday, you would have waited untill tuesday to be found NOT GUILTY! You were arrested for something, and it was their job to hold you in case you were guilty. Next time, watch yourself and what you do. Just because they found you not guilty, it doesn't mean you are.
Come on, how are you going to make them pay? Try it and they all will laugh at you. It is legal to detain you 48 hours, but if it's over the weekend untill your hearing, then it's legal. Also depends on the charges!!!
My cousin was arrested for lightrail tickets and was held from thursday night till tuesday. So you got out early, my friend! Get over it. |

Apparently you were suspected of doing something and they needed to keep you right there until you went to court. Consider yourself lucky that you were not allowed to 'mingle' with the others in jail. |

Go to a solicitor. Tell them you want to bring an action against the Crown for false imprisonment.
The solicitor will laugh at you and throw you out. |

Find a barrister and find out what your options are. I seriously doubt you have any options. |

consult with a local lawyer and a lot them do first interview free
they are best ones to advise you of any reprocussions following your arrest. but is common if lifted on friday to be locked up until going before judge monday morning |

The police have a duty to put 'prisoners' before the next available sitting of the court. So in your case there must have been 3 available sittings which were missed.
Friday morning, afternoon and saturday morning.
Whether or not you were found guilty is irrelevant to the powers given to the police to detain someone in their cells. Being in a cell for that amount of time, the police should have let you have a wash and fresh air.
Look up on the internet for solicitors who take action against the police. You should get further information and advice as to where you stand. If you are having problems sleeping, you should consult your gp. This will support your action against the police. |

Unfortunately, I don't think there is much you can do. If they had reasonable grounds to keep you in that cell, then you won't have much luck. Do you realise how many other people this has happened to?? |

Impossible, and you neglected to say what you were suspected of. No sympathy, sorry. I wouldn't take any steps if I were you because you will end up well out of pocket. Forget it unless you want to make some solicitor richer for doing nothing. |

Did you have access to legal advice while in police custody?
How long were you held without charge?
There are limits on how long you can be held without charge; but once you are charged they can hold you until the initial court hearing (magistrates court) then you may be remanded in custody or let out on bail until trial.
In your case it may just have been unlucky that Monday was the next working day and so you were held over the weekend until the court was sitting.
However you could consult a solicitor as to whether you might have a case for wrongful arrest.
Bear in mind that if the police were unable to hold people in custody before their court hearings, the bad guys would not wait around to be found not guilty...... |

What were you arrested for? Were you allowed one phone call to try to make bail and couldn't. If that's the case I doubt there is anything you can do. |

Get in touch with a solicitor. There are certain procedures that the police have to follow and when you were arrested you should have been given the chance to see them (PACE codes of practice). You should also have been given the chance to speak to a solicitor while you were there. If you did, he or she is probably the best person to start with, because he/she will know what went on and whether you've got any grounds to take action.
Good luck! |

you must have been up to no good to get arrested, just because you were found not guilty doesn't necessarily mean you weren't |

well just call a lawyer but what were you doing to get that far obviously you were doing something to get arrested and processed. but anyway just call a lawyer and sue the city that you were arrested in for false arrest or restituition or whatever you have to call it. GOOD LUCK. |

As a free man you should exercise your rights and buy a firearm to protect yourself against the police state you reside in. But if I remember right they pretty much stripped those rights away from you guys. You're probably s* out of luck. |
