Call your welfare dept or SSI. That's what they are there for, unless you have abused them.

u can go and talk to your local welfare office they will try to help u get housing and work and childcare.

I would see what type of social services are available to you. I believe there are some that pay your rent for you, and you may qualify for one of those programs. You will of course not get a lot of choice of where you live.

Maybe look in your local newspaper and find someone who is renting a personal property. You might want to find something with a lower rent, because you obviously couldn't afford where you were living before.
Someone will help you, but you DON'T have the right to take advantage of generosity and not pay your rent, having 2 children or not.
Get a second job if you have to, do whatever it takes to be financially responsible, but don't expect people to let you live rent free just because you have children. EVERYONE has children and they still manage to live within their means

you have the right to child care to enablr you to go to work so you wouldn't need to get into arrears

Mama~peapod
Try the local social benefits office in your town, with two kids they should be able to house you. However, private landlords are unlikey to take you on as a tenant as you have shown you can not/will not pay rent. Have you thought of moving somewhere else (to a cheaper area) rather than in the same area, as you may find housing easier to obtain

Outrageous
You should have planned better before getting an apartment that you couldn't afford. By not planning right, now your kids have to suffer for your poor decisions. Don't expect others to feel bad for you and try to lend you a helping hand only because you have kids if you're the one who jeopardized them in the first place.

The local council used to be responsible for homeless people in their borough..I no longer think this is the case..You will prob have to go Bed and Breakfast and get on housing association list....

There's no constitutional guarantee for housing.

i am sure there are programs that will assist you. call you local dhs agency.

you didn't say if you are on welfare or assistance or why you were behind in rent. if you have had some medical issues or repair expenses so that you could not pay rent, then i am sry for you.

most landlords will work with you if you let them know what is going on and how you plan to repay them..usually paying some amt will show your good faith and they will work with you.

i wish you luck.

Sorry to hear that dear... start searching for temporary housing assistance- in D.C., there are shelters for families that are actual private apartments - they may have the same opportunities where you live. Also, think outside the box and apply for other cheaper apartments, even if it is an efficiency, in another state, city, etc. before your rent delinquency goes to your public record. We all face hardships - some places offer services for women and children only. Get off of answers and start searching from here on.

Only way out of this one is to get back on your former landlord's good side, and do what you need to do to make payment arrangements, so this housing problem you are having will go away.

no. The only thing you could do was get a private rent. You may be entitled to help with the rent.

My god...I have seen some seriously naff answers here!! Unfortunately most of them are horribly wrong.

Every UK Local Authority has a duty to provide accommodation to people in priority need (where there are children involved) when they are NOT INTENTIONALLY HOMELESS. Intentionality is not based on, for example, whether you meant to pay rent or not...but on whether you were evicted as a result of a breach on your part. So, non-payment of rent would constitute intentionality and therefore the LA would have no duty to provide you with accommodation.

Your first step needs to be to start making a repayment arrangement with your former landlord and stick to it. Most social landlords operate a suspension/non-qualifying policy which means that, while you have arrears, you will be suspended from the register and will not be housed. If you enter into a repayment arrangement and keep to it, you can apply for the suspension to be lifted.

Unfortunately, you would have been best placed to deal with this before you were evicted. Guess that's too late now though.

For advice, Shelter are good...and there are now quite a few law firms who practice housing law and can get LSC funding (legal aid) to assist if you have a decent case. Approach your local County Court office and see if they have a list of housing practitioners who can help you...but sort out some payments or you'll get nowhere!!

Unfortunately, even though the arrears were unintentional, it is the computer that has set them evicting you because you missed two consecutive payments in a row. To go ahead with the eviction, you must already have had at least one, if not two warning letters and you should have rang the council straight away upon recieving these.
Call the citizens advice bureau, they should be able to help you as you have children.

HUNNYMONSTA
Contact these folks - they may be able to give guidance of not practical help.

Sorry, no.

Your best bet is one of the charity homeless shelters.

Well, You need to not assign the blame to the person who took a big chance on you and let you rent from him.
He has a mortgage to pay, regardless of whether you meet your obligations.
This person had no association with you other than a willingness to accept the promise that you made.
So, if someone else is to blame for your predicament...then that is the person you should seek recourse from...not the one who simply trusted you.

Satan's Attorney
You have a right to a cardboard box. You should have paid the rent.
