I was involved in an alcohol sting..the girl came through my line and i asked for her date of birth..i don't ?

know why i thought she would tell the truth..and i could tell something wasn't right the way she was looking..anyway was she suppose to lie about her age ..i got fired and received a ticket none of this was done on purpose someone help please!!!

If you did what you were supposed to do, ask for age & ID then there was no reason to fire you unless you knowing sold to a minor.

You are suposed to check the ID, that is the law in most states. But the law in most sttes is also that no one under 18 should be selling alcohol. The fact that you are 17 should get you out of the ticket if you fight it, but you were rightfully fired.

You didn't ask to see a license? People lie about their age all the time. I used to be a bartender and you aren't supposed to ask their age, you are supposed to ask for ID.

You have to check ID. That's what ID is for, to make sure someone isn't lying.

Unfortunately laws relating to the sale of alcohol to under 18's are strict liability. This means that there is no requirement of your mind being guilty like there is with normal offences. Basically this means that it makes no difference that it wasn't on purpose etc all that matters is that you sold this under 18 alcohol.

Secondly what were you doing selling alcohol? If you're only 17 you're not legally allowed to sell alcohol either. Most till systems that I worked on knew the age of the seller, so if the seller was under 18 they wouldnt let the sale proceed until authorised by a supervisor. Regardless, both yourself and the store are in deep do do. (im referring to the UK)

Edit: Oh I see, you were at work and presumably you sell alcohol? And you didn't check someone's ID so you got fired. If you feel you were unfairly dismissed, take it to an employment lawyer. But it sounds like you didn't make the appropriate checks.

n b is wrong - if you wanted to lie to cover your behind, you would have to state that she looked over 30 (and chances are no one would believe you since she isn't even 21). Don't lie, it never makes things better. As for the ticket, if it is in your name, then chances are it will be erased from your record when you turn 18, if it is in the name of the owner or establishment that you worked for you have nothing to worry about. I recommend you ignore that nonsense about selling burgers...it's petty!

I have never heard of a State alcohol law that allows you to "ask" the age of a customer. Most require an ID to be presented to purchase alcohol. You are out of luck.
