If you had a contract for a specific period, you could enforce it. If not, if you were free to accept a better offer, then neither party is bound. You could have been hired and then fired without cause 2 seconds later. |

If you work in an "at-will" state, yes that is legal. Bad business practice, but legal. |

If you never actually signed the papers, you were never actually hired. If you did sign the papers, then it's up to them to fire you. |

nope. it's called a verbal contract, and it's just as binding as a written one. hard to prove though- your word against theirs.
