It's a crime to write a check on a closed account. Whether or not it's a misdemeanor or a felony depends on the amount of the check. Turn it over to the police. This guy knew what he was doing.

try to contact the person... try to give them a second chance... and don't take a check this time. If it is over $200 dollars you can call the cops... in most states that is considered a felony... and in this case theft. Writing back checks is also a misdemeanor.

Hoping that there is a number on the check, you need to contact the party to make good on the check.....if they do not, then you can take him to small claims court to recover your money...you have to pay a fee to file through this but I do not think it requires an attorney

You can take him to small claims court....sue him for not only the money he owes you but the fees you incurred from the check bouncing and the court costs. If you have to miss a day at work in order to attend the hearing, you sue him for the lost wages for that day as well. What he did is wrong and you will win hands down. Good luck

He owes you for the amount of the check and the bad check charge (usually about $10). Make sure you get it in cash.

I don't beleive you can go to the cops. This is a civil matter and they will tell you that you would have to take it up in small claims court. I had a friend take his car in for minor repairs the auto shop had done all these other major repairs without his consent and wouldn't give him back the car until he paid, my friend didn't have the money, he called the cops butthey couldn't do anything cuz it's a civil matter.

You can file a criminal complaint for estafa (fraud) for issuing you a check with no funds because the account is closed. You can also file a civil case to collect your money from that guy who defrauded you.

Tell him first maybe it was a honest. If not hold on to the bad check you may have to sue him or better yet have his *** kicked.

Not much. You can file a claim 'downtown' in small claims court, but if he doesn't show up the most you would get is a judgement, and if its less than a thousand dollars, you're pretty much out of luck. You might ask you bank's branch manager if there is anything they can do on your behlaf, or anything he/she can suggest. This is a long shot, but at least something to try.

Go to the court house and file a small claims suit against them. Make copies of the canceled check to submit and keep the original for your day in court.

It is fraud. Go to Small claims Court, but don't count on the money. Ever.
