people with rude answers: my best friend started smoking when she was 15 and my grandma died from smoking. once you start smoking, you can't just stop. it is an addiction. everyone i know who smokes has tried to stop, but its not that easy.
try nicotine gum while you are working.. |

Do the people who don't smoke get breaks? If not, you shouldn't get an extra break because you have a disgusting habit. You know smoking is bad for you, join a support group and cut it out |

they aren't legally obliged to give you a "smoke break" but they do have to give you a break and you can smoke then. in some states minors get more frequent breaks too. |

ok well. you are being payed to do your JOB. not being paid to smoke, get me? i totally 1000% agree with your manager. do your job, if you cant handle it stop smoking :)
since you work 8 hour shifts, that means you should get ONE break each shift, usually about 30 minutes to an hour. smoke on this break....if you are not getting this break, then you need to talk to someone higher. |

Thank god you're too young to vote. Do us all a favor, and please keep your mother in the trailer park with you when it's time to vote. |

It's illegal for you to posses and smoke cigarettes at your age, so if your manager allowed you to do so then he would be breaking the law. |

you should not smoke. I would not give you a smoke break. |

Good. Smoking's bad for you and seeing your only a child of 16 he would be breaking the law by allowing it. |

if you work an eight hour shift, you're entitled to a lunch break. during your lunch break, you can probably do whatever you want. however, in some workplaces, there might be a no smoking rule --- anywhere near the building and sometimes not even in the uniform.
i don't think your boss is required to let you take breaks more than they would for nonsmokers. being a nonsmoker, i never got special breaks for any reason other than the lunch break that i was given. |

Smoking is illegal if you are under 18. Just like drinking is illegal under 21.
Its your business what you do in private, but asking your manager is public business and he has a right to obey the law and deny you to what isn't right. |

Yeah well this would be a good time to try to kick the habit. It seriously isn't good for you. *Blah Blah Blah* |

Smoke on your lunch or your regular breaks there's no such thing as a smoke break. Or quit you job and find a new one. Make sure you let the new employer know you need smoke breaks and what time you need to take them and make sure you take a book to read at the unemployment office. |

smoke 'em if you got 'em as they say... but your boss is right, you don't have a "right" to smoke on his time. The only rights you are entitled to are related to your health and well-being, neither of which applies to your smoking.
Sorry... looks like you're gonna have to tough that one out.
Maybe try nicotine gum, I dunno. |

Ok, follow your boss' rules. He decides, not you. |

uh is this like a serious question
geez grow up
stop complaining if your boss doesn't let you smoke
it's not like you'll die if you don't smoke
haha kind of ironic
you DO die from smoking
maybe you shouldn't have started smoking? |

Your employer would get in trouble for allowing you to smoke since the legal smoking age is 18. I feel your pain though, I am a smoker. Best advice I could give is to chew some nicorette gum or get the smoker's patch while you are at work. Other than that your last choice would be to quit...which you've made clear you don't want to hear. |

get over it. quit smoking or quit your job. simple as that. |

They are required to get breaks. Why can't you smoke on those breaks? I see employees smoking outside behind the fastfood resteraunts all the time. |

I use to be a smoker & am glad I finally got that monkey off my back but anyway.....Legally your employer must give you a lunch/supper break (depending what time you work) & usually most business also have in their policy about another 15 min. break. Check out what is stated in your policy because I have seen where some places get 2 breaks.
You can do whatever you want during those breaks within reason like smoking, snacks, calling home, etc... |

Your manager is not required to give you a "smoke break" ...only breaks and lunches based on current labor laws, based on a contract (if you are union), or what was agreed upon when you were hired. You are not getting paid to smoke. When you "need" a smoke, it is your responsibility to find ways to curve the cravings...gum, hard candy, etc.
Welcome to the real world!
P.S. Do not use a patch or nic gum and smoke at the same time!
Signed,
A smoker that has been in the real world for 20 years |

You are not of legal age to smoke....therefore you aren't intitled to a smoke break....if you don't get any breaks thats different...and there are child labor laws......Good Luck, and stop smoking now before you lose a lung! |

well the smoking is heart attack time they have told all the people they can and now they have found there is more stuff in it to make you get really hooked in cigs which is bad. you could quit but heck if you wan tthe job then just quit that would be best for you in long run. as it is now when you are 50's or 60 you will have something terrible thing wrong with your breathing they have fond this to be true sad but true so you may even beable to wear oxygen mask all over its a pain. alot of oler people have to do that take care. |

By law you have to have a break. It depends on each state...Oregon requires 15 min break every four hours, or 30 min break (off the clock) every 6 hours.
On another note...
There is no such thing as a "smoke break." Use the breaks given to you.
Call better business bureau if you are not provided the state required break. |

Quit smoking. You have the golden opportunity, with this job. Just bite the bullet and quit. You will live longer and be healthier, and have more money to spend. Cigarettes are expensive.
Example: Say you smoke one pack a day and it costs you $4.00 per pack. You will spend $1,460.00 by this time, next year!!
If they cost more where you live, figure it out, you will still be having a lot of your hard-earned money go up in smoke!! |
