IKEA charged me for a bookcase that I didnt buy?what can I do?
Find answers to your legal question.

IKEA charged me for a bookcase that I didnt buy?what can I do?

basically on the trolley we put 5 items(big items).we didnt place a book shelf there, they charged us for one

Now these 5 items that where on the trolley,we went and put an order for delivery.

so delivery day,5 items comes and we sign for it,then we realise that we had paid for a bookcase,(which obviously wasnt delivered).

however there was a bit of confusion on our part because we did want to buy a bookcase, but we picked up only the door for it thinking it was the full item,so when we looked at the reciept we thought that it was indeed sold in two parts and we were therefore charged for two separate pieces of one item.(which is the case).

So we called Ikea for advise and they told us its got nothing to do with them and we should take it up with the delivery company,so we kept calling them and they wouldnt take responsibilty for it either saying that only 5 items were ordered and 5 items were delivered.

So going back and forth with Ikea, they wouldnt check their cctv,I kept calling them and they told me that they refuse to take it any further,So My dad decided to go into store and sort it out,he went to customer service, and they lied and said the cctv showed 6 items going through, the next day I went into Ikea and demanded that they show me the cctv, then the security went and had a look and saw that we were charged for something we didnt put in our trolley and decided to give our money back.

Now I want to ask them for compensation for the time they wasted, and theyre lack of cooperation and there lies,if they dont, can I take legal action,This may seem harsh but imagine if any indivdual was to owe a company money they will destroy you to get that money back so why cant we

All you can do is write to the top boss of IKEA. First phone the store you dealt with ask for the manager, ask that manager for the name and address of his area manager and the Top Manager of IKEA. He/she will say "can I help you"? you say: "well not really i have already been dealt with by your store and i am very unhappy about it" "it is a matter of principle because if the problem was reversed you would be on to me like a rash".!! Tell him/her You intend to write to the senior manager and also to inform your hundreds of friends on Facebook, because you feel so strong over their lack of concern for fair treatment to customers whose money you take. Always, always get the name of the person you speak too. The manager might say "i am sorry for the way you have been treated" You say "look at the trouble i was put to and i was right all the time - it is like being called a liar and a theif, i am proud of my honesty and integrity and i thought IKEA held to the same high standards that is why i shop there, but obviously i was wrong about IKEA and I intend to make this known to a manager who will listen and do something" !!!!
That is as much as you can do. To go the legal path will be a waste of your energy but a phone call and a letter can do the trick especially if you use the right language. I always speak straight to the point when i have a problem with a retailer or a bank etc. It always works, do you know why ?? I ALWAYS EXPRESS WHAT I WANT IN MY WORDS. LIKE YOU, I KNOW I AM RIGHT. I DONT CARE WHAT THEY WANT OR SAY. THEY ALWAYS SAY "OUR POLICY IS ???" WELL IGNORE THAT PHRASE AND STICK TO YOUR GUT FEELINGS. I HAVE NEVER LOST A CASE. GOOD LUCK.
ps; it is in the English culture NOT to complain and to put up with crap service. No other country/people tolerate bad service. It is simple as far as i am concerned > they take your hard earned cash so I want the service I am entitled to for my hard earned cash.. If we all adopt the attitude, prevalent in England then we get the bad service we deserve. The reason John Lewis is successful is because they would not do what IKEA did to you. It may seem petty but they take your cash and i demand a proper service when i part with my money.
PSS; I had terrible service from BT it went on for weeks yet they still took my money. So I contacted the Chairman of BT, by phone, his personal office. I got service you would not believe, even a personal manager who rang me everyday, they refunded all my money and extra bonus pay and a big hamper full of food and wine. I simply said; "You take my money - I want the service" ? no need for flash arguments.

If they already gave you the money back, then you have no legally compensable harm.

You can complain though, like to the BBB and whatnot.

You're not entitled to compensation for the time you wasted. You have no legal action to take because you already got your money back from the item. There is nothing further you can do.

You got your money back, you are out of legal options.

Lesson to learn, pay close attention whenever you are buying something, other people make mistakes.

And if you aren't happy with IKEA, take your business to someone else in the future.

The issue has been resolved, there is no longer any action that can be taken against IKEA. However, you could write a letter to their head office outlining your complaint, maybe they will give you something as a goodwill gesture?
