If Arnold Swarzenegger was born in another country, how is it okay for him to be governor?

When I was in high school I read from a text book that you MUST be born in the US in order to qualify for a position like that. I remember this clearly. How is it that he's immuned to this rule? I'm not trying to call out anyone, but it just seems very unfair. What's up with this? Am I missing something?

That rule only applies to the presidency, not becoming governor. |

He is a naturalised citizen, the only rule that applies to forgien citiznes who latter become citiznes is they can not become President.
So they can be Governor, unless a state would pass a law against it, whichI know of no state with that rule |

I think you are thinking of becoming a President of the US.....he can't run for the presidency because he was born in another country. Governorships are not that big of a deal.......they really don't do that much in any state, particularly mine...Texas... |

Because he is an American Citizen and was elected into office. You can be born in another country and gain US citizenship and that qualifys you to run for office. |

You have to be a born citizen to be president. Each state has it's own rules about governors. |

I do know that he can't be president as he was foreign-born. |

You don't remember what you read. States have different qualifications for governor. The Constitution talks about the President having to be born an American Citizen. And most states didn't put that in there because few, if any of the new states had any native born citizens. |

the us constitution says that only the president has (read must) be a natural born citizen of the state of his birth. the same applies to the vice president. |

In our constitution, there is nothing restricting him from being govrnor, but he cannot run for president. He must born in the USA. They would have to amend the constitution of the United States for that to ever happen. |

All offices of government have different qualifications. The presidnet has to be 35+ years, american citizen, born in america. Governors have to be 30(i think) y.o., american citizen, and live in the state they will represent for mroe than 9 years. Thats the law in Illinois, i dont know for sure in other states. |
