If it's a business, the general rule is this. As long as there is food being served, minors are allowed to sit at a table with service, not in the lounge or bar.
If it's private property, it's up to the owner of the property to approve if you can be there or not.
Stay alive, don't drink and drive :) |

just warning you!
if your still in high school and play sports, and you get caught at a party with alcohol, it does NOT matter if you were drinking or not, you could get kicked off the team.
but legally you wont get in trouble. |

Yes as long as you have no alcohol in your system...or fake IDs on you! |
|

no you will not get in trouble unless you actually are drinking. |

If you don't have any alcohol in your system, then your fine. |

you can be in the same room or building, but if the police can smell or obviously see that you are under the influence, they will test you for alcohol.
if you dont drink it your fine |

If you are a minor and you are sober, you are fine. |
|

Becky

Of course! As long as you don't drink yourself, it's fine. |

In trouble with the law, no- unless you're giving the party. In trouble with your parents- yeah, probably. |

I can't guarantee that if the police showed up they wouldn't be suspicious and possibly ruin the party, but I think if you are 100% sober and don't have an alcoholic drink in your hand, no laws are actually broken. To double check the laws in your state, visit http://www.alcoholpolicy.niaaa.nih.gov/stateprofiles/
If you think the party is likely to be loud and rambunctious and there is a decent chance of someone calling the police and complaining, I'd suggest skipping it to avoid the hassle. If it's just you and 5 good friends getting together to kick back and watch B movies, go for it and have fun. |

I struggle with this one too and I get varying answers from all the adults I ask. I'm legally an adult but under 21, so technically as long as I'm not drinking I should be okay.
I would think that if you're around people who are legally able to drink, you should be fine; just don't touch the alcohol. If, though, you're around people that are under 21 and are drinking, you should take the safest route and just leave the building. Chances are, questions will be asked second if the cops bust a party or something.
For your peace of mind, stay away from it altogether if you're worried. |

as long as your not drinking or causing trouble |

I would think if you werent drinking it would be ok. Its not illegal to go to parties when your under 21 and thats all your doing is going to a party. |

Yes, you will. Also the others might get in trouble too especially the person whose house your at. |

NOOOO! you can still get in trouble for being at the party and associating with people that are drinking if you are underage. you can get in HUGE trouble with your school and may not be allowed to participate in any extra curricular activities |

What my fellow Y!Answerers mean, is that it's perfectly fine to be there as long as when/if the cops come you have on tennis shoes, and you know how to run really fast. Regardless if you drink or NOT, if your a minor, caught at a party that's NOT supposed to be going on- that has alcohol, Your parents will be in trouble. SO, just to simplify: if your at a legal affair, and you don't drink the booze, you'll be A-ok. :) |

i think you will get in trouble for being there.
its not all about the alcohol its also about the noise |

of course u will get in trouble..."THey don't know if ur gonna drink alcohol...there's a lot of crazy ppl who will say that, but will still drink!" so yea |

Yes if the police come, you will learn by your mistakes. |

no. Of course not. Everyone else is not a minor. And you are not drinking. It's kind of like parents buying beer, and then the kids are in the house. The kids won't get in trouble. |
|

no you can still get in trouble if cops come. |

My daughter got a MIP for just stopping by a party with the parents being their and she had nothing to drink and even asked them to test her and she still got a ticket. And the owners got sent to jail for having beer out in the presents of minors. 42 tickets where handed out that night. In Oklahoma. |
