live in the country, but his brother lives in the same city as me, but I don't know his address because I have not had contact with him for 7 years, is it sufficient to run a notice in the local newspaper for a month?

When you recieve a court warrant it is acceptable for them to go to your 'last known address', as it is the responsibility of the person receiving the documents to maintain their ability to receive mail. I do not know if it is the same thing for civil and divorce courts.
Also, if you send the papers and they are returned as not delivered, then it helps in court when you go without him. The court should be able to give you advice, or get a divorce lawyer. |
