No, but you can get a SSN verification letter with your name and SSN on it...the card will be mailed to you later, but the verification letter can be used most anywhere as proof of SSN, work status, etc. Make sure to take your actual drivers lic./documents. |

No they will only give you a paper saying your ss card has been requested and will be mailed. |

It will be much faster of course. And better than mailing in your documents and all of that. That takes more time and you run the risk of losing your documents in the mail.
If you go in person they will give you a printout that is good enough for most any purpose. It is good enough to start work, get benefits and all of that as long as you have your other ID.... license, state ID, birth certificate or whatever.
I went in person once and got it in the mail in 5 days. |

No you would think they could just print up another one of those little paper cards right there but its not that easy. they have to mail you one, i think it takes about a week. But in the mean time they will give you a letter that states you have one that will be coming its as good as the card, its like a temporary card. |
