they could get a grant from the social fund in the uk.
some co-op undertakers do not charge for children under15 years but you need to check in your area.
The parents may have preferred to pay for their child's funeral themselves.
A lot also depends on personal choice, if they needed help with the cost due to low income they can still apply after the event to the DSS.. when our 1 day old died we got a bereavement payment to help with the costs. |

No! Why should they? Losing a child is a horrible experience but it does not rise to the level of something that the government should involve itself in. It is possible that certain jurisdictions may have a "welfare" stipend of some type to help in the expenses. As has already been said this will probably be "chump change." I recently lost a son, a military veteran. The government, in this case and all similar cases, provided a burial site and headstone. Our family paid for the funeral expenses. Do you see what it is about? A person who has served the government gets some minimal help. Someone who has not served does not get the same help. We do have in our society charity organizations who will provide help and even to the extent of asking the public for donations to help if the family really cannot afford to bury their own. This is as it should be. |

No. If an indigent person dies and no one claims the body, the government will bury the body but if a family wants embalming and ceremony and a coffin, they will have to pay for it themselves. |

No, but there is a death benefit. It is really nothign mroe than chump change compaired to the cost of a funeral. More often than not, a loved one gets stuck footing the bill. |

No but if they are on certain benefits they may get some help they will have to pay the remainder themselves. It's Councils who arrange a paupers funeral not the government departments. |

highly unlikely.
unless the childs death was the governments fault. and they were at some liability |

I don't know about the UK. But in the states, you pay. Our local funeral parlor didn't charge for anything but the casket. They were so good to us. In the states on benefits the still don't pay. They will give you a card board box. |

My son died when he was 20 & someone told me social security would send us a certain amount of money but they then told me know. No, so call social security their might be a small amount given. It is better if the person believes in cremation it will save them a whole lot of money. |

No. If no one will pay for the funeral, the state will pay for a pauper's funeral - basically a pine box buried in the local Potter's Field. |

you can apply to get help with the cost of a funeral but it is not automatically given to you |

If there is it is only a couple hundred dollars. This is why most people buy life insurance (which is really burial insurance). |

This question has really upset me because it comes across as though the thought of financial gain is more important than a child dying - how sick is that
