The respondant closed its business(changed its name),can the claimant claim for the money back? The date of the receipt which the respondant gave is before the date the business closed.

In original suits before civil courts,for recovery of money,parties are referred to as plaintiff and defendant. Before quasi-judicial bodies like Consumer Forum, Workmen's compensation commissioner, Motor Vehicles Tribunal, Arbitral Tribunal etc, reference is as claimant and respondent. It is not clear in the question, where the case is pending.
In any contract, the contracting parties are supposed to include, their successors-in-title, assigns, attorneys, agents etc. In any pending litigation, if the constitution or composition of any party gets changed by death, insolvency, dissolution, sale of enterprise, amalgamation, take-over, merger etc., the other party can move the court/ Authority, hearing the case, by way of an application, to substitute the name of the other party by their successors in title/ legatee/ inheritor/ legal heir(s) as the case may be, and pray for continuation of the proceedings to its logical end.
