If an abortion is killing a baby and doctors take the hypocratic oath how can doctors perform an abortion?

First, not everyone agrees that abortion is killing a baby. That is a moral position based on religious dogma, and certainly not the prevailing view in the medical community.

Second, that's not what the Hippocratic oath actually says. It's about not having ulterior motives or personal agendas.

Third, according to both medicine and the Supreme Court, the issue is whether an individual can be compelled to provide life support for another against their will. A doctor who refused to terminate a pregnancy where the woman did not want to be pregnant is no better than a doctor who forces someone to donate blood against their will. Both are violating the rights of the patient to choose what medical procedures are performed on them.

Many believe that a fetus is not a baby. These people are idiots. As soon as impregnation occurs, you have the basis for another human being. It may not look like a human, but as cellular organizisms, we are constantly changing till we die. You cannot and should not determine if something or someone is human or not just because it does not look like you - yet.

1) It's the Hippocratic Oath.
2) Not everyone considers abortion to be killing a baby. People in favor of abortion - including the doctors that perform them - usually believe that the unborn is just a fetus (not a person or baby) until birth.

A lot of doctors will refuse and if you persist they will give you the name of another doctor to see. They are standing by their principles and oath but want to make sure you still get good medical care.
In some cases, it's necessary to save the mother's life, i.e. a tubal pregnancy.
And unfortunately, just as pharmacists are forced to fill prescriptions for birth control or abortion pills against their beliefs (it's the law), some doctors are forced to perform this procedure because it's okay by law and the hospital they work in may force them to provide all procedures, regardless of their own feelings.

Well considering the amount of respect society puts on doctors, shouldn't it tell you something?? Maybe the doctor's realize that it isn't a living creature yet, hence not breaking the oath. Huh, I bet they even have a whole lot more education than you...

A fetus isn't a baby - it has no independent life of its own. A doctor will not kill a baby, or a fetus that is normally viable outside the body - that generally precludes the third trimester.

Before that, the fetus is no more viable without the mother than a tumor is - and we remove tumors all the time.

Abortion isn't killing a baby. Its killing a largely undifferentiated ball of cells called a fetus. Frankly, the way this world is and where it is headed the fetus would probably thank us if it could.

Well, when the fetus is under 3 months development, there's not much concern that they are killing a person. In addition, many doctors don't perform abortions. Thirdly, many feel the woman is their patient and they treat her needs. Fourth, why not worry about the babies who are here - suffering in a nation with no decent health care, high rates of day care which is horrifically damaging to the psyche of infants? Fifth - we don't need more single moms raising kids. We don't. It's bad for the kids. It's bad for the moms. It's bad for society.

Consider it choosing between the lesser of two evils, if you will. I've never had an abortion and never would have. I have known many women who have and I will tell you that none of them should be mothers. They were right about their utter inability to parent, to provide what a child needs.

Abortions have been practiced by humans since humans have gotten pregnant. Women have always controlled their fertility and always will. Quality of life is much higher in countries where women average 2 or fewer children than in countries were fertility is unrestricted.

If you pretend there is a god who implants a soul in each fetus (while allowing it to be born to a woman who will allow her boyfriend to rape the baby or who will sell the baby for drugs money or who will ignore the baby) then you could have a problem with abortion. If you don't believe in fairy tales, than you accept that humans must make rational decisions about their lives.
