It sounds like you're being laid off. And I don't think there has to be any action beyond that. |

They have to state why for unemployment. They can always say a reduction in work force. If they say performance and not need a reason. |

In most stated they can fire you with less than a months notice. At the chemicle plant were I work my boss could walk up right now and say I dont like you you are fired ( we have to sign contracts) |

It all depends on how long the probation period is for there job. Most new employees have the standard 6 months. During this time the employer only has to give one months notice. But they do have to give you a reason why. Might be worth asking... |

In Georgia you don't need a reason. Don't know what the laws are where you are from. |

Absent a services contract or Union prohibition, the employer can discharge an employee without cause, as long as it is not discriminatory.
If you were an at-will employee, you are lucky you got 1 months severance. |

most jobs i have had have had a 6 month trial period, during that period the employer is entitled to decide that they no longer wish to employ you, they dont need to give reasons. |

In the UK an employer doesn't have to give a reason for terminating your employment if he does so within 6 months of you starting a job. The amount of notice you may get will depend on how regularly you are paid: if you are paid weekly, he need only give you a week's notice. So use the month you have wisely and start actively looking for a new job. If you are invited to interview, take the time off: as you are under notice to leave your employer can hardly deny you the chance to go to interview for another job. But be careful how you do it: don't be rude to him or take it for granted that you ~will~ get the time off - you still need a reference! |

Read your contract, when was your three month review were you given one ? if not ,that's malpractice, if it was a six month trail period a review must be carried out at three months , yes he / she can give notice with out saying anything no verbal or written up to review time, you are over that time standard employee practise sue them |

The employer ought to give a reason, but as they do not have the right to take your employer to an industrial tribunal until you have been in employment for 12 months, it's probably not worth pushing it.
I would ask for a meeting with the manager to ask for feedback/clarification.
If it is a disciplinary matter then yes they ought to be initiating the company's disciplinary procedures - but if they don't, there's not much you can do about it.
Would they be willing to act as a reference?
Was there a problem with your performance?
Is the employee a member of a union? If not - tut tut! They might have been able to do something! |

Some states are a "fire at will" state. Means fire you for nothing, it is legal. Employer does not have to issue any explanation for letting you go. But, if he does, you can probably draw unemployment until you can find a better job and one that apprciates your work. Be glad he is giving notice, he could have just fired you on the spot. |

Yes they can just give notice that they are terminating your contract. This applies to up to 2 years service, at this stage they then need to give notice of redundancy if it is not a disciplanary. |

In the UK you only have to go through disciplinary procedures once the employee has been with you for one year. Before that they can give you a days notice if they like.
Sorry |

Your employer can terminate you without cause if he gives you two weeks severence pay, if you're in a full time salaried position.
The amount of severence pay varies with your salary, level in the company, and most importantly how long you've worked there. Since you've only been there for 4 months, you wouldn't really have any legal case for asking for more. |

They don't even have to give you one month, the employee should consider themselves lucky that they have a months pay and time to find alternate employment. Most people are let go and must be out within an hour, and escorted through the building with security. |

the company doesn't have to give a reason why they are dispensing with your services |

if you are in the probationary period then no reason has to be given if you not then the employer must go down the correct procedure of verbal, written and final written warning |
