If asked to - would you take up arms to defend your country?
Find answers to your legal question.

If asked to - would you take up arms to defend your country?

Or are you one of those who would ask the person charging towards you with a gun if they would like a cup of tea and an open debate?

I don“t have enough arms in my country to defend it from the imperialism.

Have defended and would do it again.

gilly
Yes if it was war to defend our freedom, but not a war caused by politicians or religious fanatics

draftboyg
I don't drink tea, so give me a gun.

jimmy_hills_chin
no ,not at the present time any way,not with the way things are going and im sure there are people tha fought in ww2 would have thought again about fighting if they knew how things were going to turn out

That depends on your definition of defending your country. If our country was under attack, then yes...however, I'm not sure I'd be terribly keen to volunteer to defend my country's 'interests' abroad as those interests are defined by the politicians, who I currently trust about as far as I can throw. Unfortunately, that's one of the reasons I'm not too keen on considering the forces as a career route, although a few years ago I would have.

I wonder whether others will, like me, think twice about joining up, and how much of an effect this may have on recruiting. It's a very sad situation.

Yep, point me at the armoury.

if i though we were in the right and if it was on the defencive and not offencive then yes

FrozenCamel
What, you mean conscription? In that situation the government doesn't 'ask' anyone - it forces them. They might tell you you're defending your country, but an untrained, frightened civvy with a gun isn't going to be much defence against anything - he's just going to serve as target practice while the proper army does its job somewhere out of harm's way.

Well, I took an oath (three times, in fact) to protect the Constitution against all enemies, foreign and domestic. Since my experience largely included being prevented from effectively engaging foreign enemies, I'd have to say my answer would depend on whether you'd be asking me to take up arms against foreign enemies, or domestic ones.

It's always better to settle a disagreement by debate, but if asked I would most definitely take up arms to defend my country, I am proud to be British and would be proud to fight for my country, if that was required, diplomacy doesn't always work, we just don't live in a perfect world.

Yes I would.

If we were directly attacked, as in World War 2, then yes. If asked to take up arms for an ambiguous police action like Vietnam and Iraq, then the answer would be no.

If anyone is not prepared to do so (or perform equivalent civilian work) they do not belong in that country, so the answer is yes.

Of course, it would be nice if the cup of tea and open debate obviated the need for a war. One can dream.

In the event of clear and present danger on American soil, indeed, I would. I'm still breathing.

NYCPulpWriter
Provided it's not the front lines and more like sneaking around doing intelligence stuff then I would.

Centurion
I would. The only problem I would have is trying to decide which one of my weapons I would want to use since I love them all equally! Naaaa, my Spas 12 would do the trick just fine and send the charging criminal into the next life!

swingoutsister
I would go to war if it was a just war. Doesn't seem to be too many of these lately. Most wars are caused by bankers and politicians.

Forget the gun, I would be up for a swordfight and fight real hand-to-hand combat!

Yes of course I would if asked, otherwise I would be a collaborator and that just wouldn't be an option ever! As bad as those invading the country if not worse.

I think the point is that you bring up the tea and debate before it gets to that stage. It depends on what exactly I would be defending my country from (I don't believe all the bollocks about Iraq) but generally, no, I dont believe in war and I dont believe and cause is worth dying for.

To defend my country? All I'd ask is to pick my weapons. ^^

To defend somebody else's country? u_u Next question.

Ivan
Definitely not, not while B-Liar is in charge of this Country because he doesn't care about the soldiers

Keith W
As time goes on the country seems less and less worth defending.....and thats from someone who loves all things military!!!.....Depends who was invading...?
No seriously the UK is swiftly losing the plot and with business's now running the country what are we actually defending?....There is still a lot of good in the UK but we are now observing as all that slowly slides away with each generation.
I work with the elderly and see day to day the values that they have.......and as mentioned, all slowly fading away......Britain is now mainly about how much your house is worth....values not really worth defending.

I hope you got the answers you were hoping for but seeing that my skin colour is Black and that i've been under attack since day one i must be therefore considered 'the enemy'. The Racists are my enemy and are growing rapidly. The only person i'd defend is me and people like me who have a common cause who have been S.H.I.T. on. This country or any other country , no! My beliefs YES. By the way have you signed up to Iraq or Afghanistan yet , or just having a cup of tea.
