i would like to think that the person most qualified would get the job. having seen the labour party who hire MPs for their gender and race balance and the in utter able incompetence that has followed, you would think every one had learned a lesson by now. the BORING BULL SH*T racist card is getting a bit beyond a joke. so you give a complete no hope tosser the job just because he's black????

it doesn't matter what race they are, the promotion needs to go to the best qualified person-the person who's earned it.

Yeah its racist towards whites. It makes it easier for the fewer black coppers to get promoted (There is fewer because there is a much smaller black population obviously).

Why cant they just promote the best person for the job!!!

I know its wrong but they always look at their quotas first and see if they have enough ethnic minorities in that department, then if filled they look for the best person for the job (which they should do from the start!)

Life should be a meritocracy. It doesn't matter what the gender or race of the individuals - the person who will do the job best should be promoted.

in small business if you run a corner shop, is it racist to employ a relative over an outsider, of course not, in my mind its up to the person who's paying the wages in the private sector, the public sector is a different kettle of fish,

Kayti's funny! But, why does EVERYTHING revert to this stupid "color" thing? Color has nothing to do with it. And never should, damn it! Haven't we evolved any more than that? Ideally, they should all be judged on their merits. However, under new laws in the UK, preference should be given to the black officer, as a member of a minority race.

In the 80's the US introduced a policy of "positive discrimination" in their armed forces (and possibly also their police forces, I don't know), in order to promote more people from minority groups. It worked really well, and I worked alongside some really good people who probably wouldn't have got there without a bit of a hand.
