Yes i am completely for it. People are arguing that it is barbaric and inhumane but who can stand up and say that some perv who has raped and killed a child still has human rights and the right to live. We would put down a dangerous dog why not do the same to some of the scum that lives in our country. The justice system in britain at the moment is hopeless. Far to many people are gettin away with all sorts and something needs to be done!! |

Against, it makes the state worse than the criminal because it kills in cold blood. I also don't buy the DNA argument because it can be planted. Also, if you are in contact with someone, eg, shaking hands, you carry some of their DNA. DNA evidence is potentially dangerous precisely because it purports to preclude the possibility of mistake. A little bit like expert witnesses. Anyway, DNA evidence isn't always available at the crime scene. |

No. It's interesting that you say "the chances of wrongful convictions are almost non existant". ALMOST is a HUGE word. How do you apologise to the child of the person you ALMOST got it right about? How do you apologise to his/her corpse? |

If I was given a chance I would b/c i feel as if there is much wrong in commiting a crime that is deadly such as murder and at the same time a person reeps what they soe. So if i were given the chance I would not oppose the death penalty in Britain i would up hold it. |

Ummm...
'If you cant give a person life what right do you have to give them death?'
Gandalf the White
...Gandalf isn't real. Anyway, I agree that noone should have the right to end the life of another. However, I believe we're talking about the death sentence, so we're also talking about inhuman beings. A murderer has taken someone's life - they did not have the right to do that, but they did it anyway. So how should we punish these?
'An eye for an eye will make the whole world blind'. Sorry, can't recall who said that, but I disagree anyway. This is too black-and-white for a start. Things should be taken in context, nothing is just black-and-white. I don't think that ending the life of a murderer is the same as murdering an innocent person - at all.
And what's all this about 'don't stoop to their level', 'if you do that, you're as bad as them' and 'they should be made to suffer in prison, not let off lightly with death'...balls, quite frankly. The first two arguments? I see no (worthy) comparison between someone committing a crime and then that crime being committed on them as a means of punishment. As for the 'make them suffer in prison' bit...why? Tax payers pay for prisoners. And from what I can tell, prison is damn cushy!
Well, I could go on for ages dammit, but I've gotta go. Should be an interesting discussion! |

With the D.N.A. evidence, I would say bring it back, I am a child of the 70's, looking back thing's were going on about me that I didn't know. A lot is down to parenting. So if it was conclusive I say yes, with a heavy heart. |

It depends on the crime.....for example.. for murderers (Terrorists) who muder like the 'Twin towers in New York' it would have to be long and drawn out so they can feel some of the pain they have inflicted on their victims....but personally I'd go for gassing them with t.v coverage so the ones left behind see them choking and vomiting and sh*ting themselves before death...then there is no way that they can be seen as martyrs!!! |

II totally disagree. For a start, how educated are the police. The reason hanging was abolished was because many innocent men were murdered. What is DNA? The police have no education, no training and just lock people up because someone makes a phone call. I find your question extremely naive.
Through my own research, 90% of women in the UK have been wrongly convicted and my book is starting to take shape. |

I vote No.
I even vote No for death sentences because the National Health Service cannot afford the drugs to cure the patient.

A definite no in voting yes i would be putting myself on the level of a murderer .Plenty of people have been convicted of murders where DNA can`t prove anything one way or the other ,samples have been known to get mixed up and i don`t believe DNA evidence has never been deliberately tampered with if a death penalty was brought back it would have to be for both men and women ,so what about cases like the woman who was convicted of murdering her 2 babies (Angela Canning ?) if we had a death sentence she would have hung .but she was in prison years before it was realised that the prosecutions expert witness was talking crap and misleading the jury .and then what happened they found out haw many poor grieving mothers had been locked up and treated like some kind of monster all because of his flawed evidence when the real facts were there if anyone had bothered looking .I wonder how many people would be shouting bring back hanging if it was them or one of their family in a position like that |

I would say no,
What would the benifits be for the death penalty. less people in jail maybe but that would only cover about 1% of jail space.
I think the fact that suffering in a jail is more benifical than killing as basically you get no joy from someone dieing, even if you brutally disliked or even hated them.
But bearing in mind i also think that prisons should be redeveloped in the UK and tougher punishment is served rather than the liberal pinko prisons we have today. |

No! Why do you need DNA evidence when you have the word of the police, most of them are liars and racists. Too many black people and poor people have been sent to prison on fabricated or withheld information. |
