Contrary to what some of the freaks who answered before me posted, in Maryland it is legal to vote in the Primary if you will be 18 at the time of the General Election. Sorry, but I'm not sure about Wisconsin. |

actually, many states allow it. you must first check with the Wisconsin Elections Board. They will have a website if you google those three words. |

no you have to be 18 no matter what state.....federal law...
I may be wrong but I think if you don't vote in the primaries then you can't vote in the general election. But I would check with the Voters registrar to make sure.......they might have changed that law............I applaud you for being a young person and wanting to vote already........most people blow it off, which is sad, because that type of mentality is why things don't change for the better........so I think it's great that you already want to vote......good for you!!!
Good luck!! |

Everything I can find online indicates that no, you can't. Legal age limit is 18 on election day. However, I couldn't info on the primary specifically, just a pdf on Voting in Wisconsin. Your registrar's office would be your best resource, call them tomorrow.
Contrary to what many are saying here, the Constitution does not say you have to be 18 to vote. the 26th Amendment states that the right of citizens who are 18 years of age or older to vote shall not be denied by the United States or by any State on account of age. The Constitution does not bar states from lowering the voting age.
I have found numerous articles indicating that 11 states allow for 17 year olds to vote in primaries if they will be 18 on election day and yet none tell me which 11 states.
Found 9 of the states! Indiana, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Mississippi, Nebraska, North Carolina, Ohio and Virginia. Still looking for the last 2. |

If it's like the other states you have to actually be a registered voter. Which means, you have to go to the local governing body and register to vote before casting a vote at the election site. The reason is that you have to be on the list as a registered voter to actually cast a ballot.
So, can you call the local office? Most likely it's the county courthouse, or your local city hall. As for the County Clerk or the City Clerk's office. |

Nope. In Wisconsin they are currently trying to pass legislation that would allow this. If the bill keeps on track, this would become law in 2009. However, for now you are out of luck. |

Check with your state. I seem to remember hearing Wisconsin allowing this. People who will be voting age by the general election are allowed to vote in the primary. But check. |

Federal Law (not State Law) says that you must be 18 years of age before you can vote in any election. |

You can vote in Wisconsin when you are 18. If you're still 17 at the time of the primaries, you'll have to wait for the november general election to have your say. |
