Complicity to murder, hindering an investigation. Take your pick. If you have valid information, you have a duty as a citizen to come forward with what you know. Think of the other persons family. |

I think this would make you an accessory after the fact. Tell your friend to give himself up now before this gets any worse. |

You could possibly face serious charges. Perhaps obstruction of justice or accessory after the fact if you conspired to cover it up. |

you can be charged with withholding information that could solve a crime and maybe as an accessory. You should speak with a lawyer. |

Why aren't you turning him in? Is he preparing to turn himself in? Was the accident a car accident? Was he intoxicated? Was it self defense?
Regardless of the reason, you have the legal and moral obligation to inform the police about what you know. If you withhold evidence in an official investigation, you could be charged with a crime yourself. Most likely a felony.
Most felons cannot rent apartments, cannot be employed in most career choices, cannot vote.
You need to weigh your options, and decide on your position very carefully. I fully understand friendship, and brotherhood - but at what cost to you? |

Aiding and abetting for involuntary manslaughter can run you anywhere from a couple years to a couple decades depending on a number of factors. It varies by state, by crime, and by judge.
You may be able to plea bargain if you're lucky. You'll need to get yourself a lawyer. If you haven't fessed up to it yet, then you may just be able to work out a better deal.

Your crime could be considered more serious because of all the different charges you could be charged with, like not reporting a crime, conspiracy, aiding a criminal and many , many more charges. He could end up getting off on probation for that , and you could end up in prison because of all the different charges. Best thing you can do it go to the Police, give them all the facts and especially the truth, you could get off by just testifying against this person. Time to save your own behind. That person does not deserve to be protected by you or to be saved by you, while he is taking you down with him. If you can not afford a lawyer, they have to appoint you one. |

It depends on when you became privy to this information. If you were present at the time of the offense you are an accessory to the homicide. If he told you in secrecy after the fact you are under no legal obligation to turn him in, If however you are questioned and lie you can be charged with obstruction of justice, aiding and abeting, conspiracy and lying under oath. |

As always consult a lawyer.
All that being said, if you participated in the crime. Big problems. If you had nothing to do with it and didn't see it, then nothing. |

Outside of a duty to report child abuse (in some states), you don't have an affirmative duty to report someone else's crime. Of course, you still have a moral duty.
It's not conspiracy if you did not conspire beforehand. You are not an accessory if you don't help him. It is NOT obstruction if you don't actively obstruct. |
