If other countries dont require gun ownership to maintain freedom, why does the USA?

If other countries in the OECD have less than few hundred deaths each year, many have less than 100 and the USA having over 11,000. (Deaths by firearm per 1000 deaths is out of all proportion to the rest of the OECD) . What use is the right to bear arms?
An average Iraqi household has greater fire power than an American one and yet their society is totally lawless.
If gun ownership is doing huge harm to American society why have the right to bear arms? It is only in the USA that gun death is not a negligible cause of death (within the OECD).
What purpose other than destructive, does the right to bear arms perform? Additional Details Dont you love gun nuts who attack figures as statistics? These are raw numbers , what does it matter if some one shot them or the kids were playing with the guns and they accidently killed themselves, they are dead.
It is simple no guns no accidental deaths, no downside

I just love the ppl spewing statistics. You can get whatever statics you want arguing either side, but the reality of it is do you want anyone else telling you what you can and can't own? I've owned a gun for years and I have NEVER been destructive with it. I went through a nasty divorce with guns in the house, never shot anybody. As far as the "biker guy" in the other post, who's to say if he didn't have the gun he wouldn't have shoved her, she hit her temple and died. If I hadn't have owned any chairs for her to crack her head on, she'd still be alive. We should outlaw chairs. I don't want my government telling me I can't have a gun because a LOT of criminals aren't responsible. Go check and see how many deaths there are with REGISTERED weapons. Watch getting the stats from anti-gunner sites too, they figure in suicides and accidental shootings. |

THe USA Does not require gun ownership, however it is a constitutional right, and in many state you need a license to carry a hand gun. Rifles & Shotguns do not require a license to hunt.
It its to a requirement to own, but it is a required that you have a license to carry one in public. |

As i once argued, the right to bare arms is out dated. It was meant strictly for the people of the time, and the guns of the time, and really doesn't apply to the guns or our time- America just uses it, as an excuse, as if it does. |

Because we love our guns , it's makes us feel like men , We love to kill things . It's easier to pull your gun and shoot someone then to discuss an issue . People had guns in the old West and that's how they settled arguments so why change .
I have a closet full , I'm expecting an attract any time now and I'm ready for em .
I don't want to hear any statistics that might be right and if you make me mad enough , I'll get my gun and $@@t . |

ok got your point but now think about this, all of our guns are taken away an required to be turned in for destruction ,now the only people who will turn them in are law abiding citizens now you have good people with no way to protect themselves an the criminals all still have guns an the prices of street firearms gos up but still drug dealers an crock will buy them because they can robb an kill you an raped ur wife an children because you have no way of protecting yourself or what if we were ever invaded by a foreign enemy then what sit here an be slaughtered ,think about it ,what we need to do is simply make harsher penaltys for gun crimes |

Our founding fathers regarded firearms as necessary for survival. We were not only fighting the British Army for our independence but also building an infrastructure in an unfettered land. Hunting as well as defending one's self in the wilderness and hostile Native Americans was inherent in their daily lives.
Certainly things have changed and I do think the question of a right versus privledge should be raised in regards to firearm ownership. |

Mostly because the early american were a country full of suspect people running from the law. Or kings or European bounty hunters. Fugitives always needed to pack some heat in case the vigilantes came from across the Big Pond.
Anyhow thats how Sitting Bull saw it. |

They don't need to because they have us. They know if they go anti-democracy we're gonna stomp them!
Besides, 11,000/year, hardly noticable.
Your arguments are hilarious. The average Soviet household had far less firepower than the American one and now that society no longer exists. |

We don't 'require' gun ownership. You have to go through a background check and get a permit to have a gun, and in some cases, you are required to take classes. Why don't you go read a book instead of being ignorant and going on American websites to ask irrelevant questions based on false knowledge. |
