I routinely check on people's case files, is this okay?
I don't know why I am asking, what they don't know won't hurt them. My father works for the local county and he alerted me to this county website that shows civil and criminal cases when you search a person's name.
Superior courts, I presume. Sad thing is no one has ever heard of it, I feel like telling people that their business with the law is out in the open for people like me to see.
One of my old profs had a speed law violation and had to go to traffic school LOL. I guess no one is perfect....

Public is public.
If the county has published them online, they are accessible to anyone. It is OK to look.
By the way, you are making an assumption that "no one has ever heard of it". There are many people who do what you are doing - checking the public records.
I work in a court clerk's office. We publish thousands and thousands of documents on the internet. |

By definition, public records are PUBLIC. Therefore its not illegal to look at public records. |

It IS ok to look - they are PUBLIC records. Just remember though that these sites usually have a statement on the home or search page that reminds you that the information is not to be misused... I wouldn't go around your school telling people about your prof's violation. |
