Anything from wage garnishment to jail time. Pay up and help support the kids you created.

An all expense paid vacation to JAIL! Men who don't pay their child support need to be put away because they are a bunch of sorry individuals.

If and when proven, "someone" will have to start paying immediately including any back payments due. The next step if "someone" doesn't want to pay is to have "someone's" wages garnished... the court orders the child support taken out of the check after taxes (?) but before "someone" gets their paycheck.

IF THAT DOESN'T work.... "someone" goes to jail. I'd hate to be that "someone", even worse "someone's" kids. Hope this helps clear up any questions for that person.

Oh, depends. A lot of states will revoke your driver's license. Of course, for that to happen, you have to be licensed in the state where your child support decree is in effect, or live in a state with a reciprocal child-support agreement yours. Best to pay your child support.

If it is proven, depending on your laws, he will either have to have the back pay taken out of his paychecks and he might even serve jail time, which doesn't help anyone.

It depends on what state you're in. In NY, they will suspend your driver's license and they can garnish your paycheck, your income tax refund, just as a means of getting you to pay.

The kids that are not getting support from their parent WILL find out someday, and their self esteem will be damaged because one of the people who brought them into this world didn't care enough to pay a few bucks to help take care of them--because if the parent isn't paying to support them, they surely are not spending any quality time with them, either! Get a job, get a second job, and LOVE your kids! Man up!

I would hope that he would go to jail, but probably not very much. If he has a real job and wants to keep it, he will probably have his salary attached, much the same way as a garnishment works.
If he bounces from job to job, he can stay ahead of the child welfare people and they won't be able to do much.
I have a nephew who is a dead beat dad and his wife goes before the judge next month. He should be found in contempt of court, because he promised to make the house payments in lieu of child support, but he hasn't been doing that either.

Lady J
It depends. He could go to jail, have his wages garnished or have to settle with a lump payment. Also, his tax refund could be taken.

A person obliged to give support can be forced by the court to do what is mandated under the law if the child or his guardian files a case against him.

sadly whilst the punishments can be extreme, loss of license, wage garnishing, pulling of any contractors licenses going to jail etc etc the idiots at the child support office USUALLY drop the ball and not a lot happens other than YET another dead beat dad drops out babies and then when he gets tired he moves and Oh my gosh the kid still needs to eat etc...............

1. A warrant for his arrest will eventually be issued.

2. Eventually he will be arrested.

3. His wages will be garnished.

4. He will have a criminal record.

I have a nephew that has this problem. this is really serious not only for the kids that`s not getting any support money but for the dead beat parent as well. why the state takes their drivers license from them I don`t understand. They need to drive to work to pay the support. Washington state is a bad state to be in if you didn' pay your support. going to jail doesn't solve any thing either. they need to work to pay the back support and current support. we need to set up different programs for them. not jail and suspension of every license. any fishing here in WA.

His tax returns can be seized both federal and state. Wages garnished. Depending on the state like here in Missouri their license can be suspended. It is also a felony punishable by up to four years in prison. It can be dropped to a misdemeanor with either a year or two years of supervised or unsupervised probation.
