Was not me but someone I know that keyed the car to his ex-wife's new boyfriend. The damages came to a state jail felony charge. But the ex-wife said that she would try and get the charges dropped just curious if she actually can? (no harrasment involved)

There is no private criminal prosecution in the u.s. The charges were made by the DA or other prosecutor, based on the evidence recieved from the cops and the victim, and only that prosecutor can decide to dismiss or not. |

If the complaining witness (the victim of the crime) does not was to go forward, the prosecutor will most likely drop the charges. If you intimidate the witness to "convince" them that they should drop the charges, there is a good chance that you will be not only charged in the keying incident, but also charged with a felony of witness intimidation.
If you keyed someones car, and have paid to repair the damage your childish actions have caused, that is one thing. If you are continuing to cause problems and harass the victim, you deserve to rot in jail.
From your question it is not clear if you are the one who had the car damaged, were the one who damaged the car, or are asking a general question. Please, do not take offense at my tone if you are the victim. I believe that keying a car is a childish and useless act, and anyone who does so deserves to suffer the consequences. |
