It's called self defense and you shoot them. |

What you have to remember in the UK is that it is not legal to kill anyone unless they pose the same threat to you or your family. If you do kill the chances are that you will be arrested but may not be charged if the Police and the CPS are satisfied that it was self defence. Basically you can use reasonable force against someone who poses a threat to you in your home. That means if he punches you can punch back but you cannot beat him to a pulp or kill - especially if the thief is a small teenager and you are a 16 stone ultra fit boxer or similar. If you do you will end up in court on charges of GBH |

The official UK police line is you may kill him in self defence if he is posing a direct threat. If he runs off and you kill him in retribution, then thats a no-no.
Tip, keep a metal golf club under your bed - just in case.
Alipatta is wrong. The law has moved on since Tony Martin. |

If they were not threatening your life and you killed them, you would be in big trouble. As far as inflicting injury, you cannot go overboard. Not that I agree with the laws but too many home invaders have won lawsuits for the property owner getting overzealous in their attempt to thwart being a victim. Not fair, but still the law. |

The official term in the UK is minimum force.
If you kill him it could be murder or culpable homicide
You would be jailed as it happens all the time. |

It all depends. The law states you can use 'reasonable force'. In all honesty each case has to be identified individually. If for example you shot someone in the back like that farmer did a few years ago then you may go to prison for a few years. If however you were defending your self or you gave the f***** a couple of licks to the head i think you would be OK.
It is a very difficult situation because 'what is reasonable force'.
If you kill him you will definately be arrested until they can establish the evidence.
The way i see it- if someone has broken into your home you should be able to do what you like. The law protects the criminals too much not the victims! |

Each state is different. You have the right to defend your property. If said person has not been invited to your home and appears to be a threat, you have the right to defend yourself and your property. Try to asses the situation first before you start shooting or beating them down. |

If you feel you are in imminent danger it is legal to use lethal force. Tip: dead men tell no tales... |

In the UK you aren't actually allowed to use any form of attack as defence... there have been plenty of cases to prove this.
Can't remember the full name of the farmer who was constantly attacked by burglars/junkies - Mr. Martin I think. He ended up in jail cause he shot them, killing one and injuring the other. If you're in the states however, you just shoot 'em and be done with it. |

in england it is ok to keep a cricket bat by your bed, and you can whack a burglar with it but only if you have a ball to go with it. this ball proves you had the bat to play cricket with and it was not a weapon. |

pretty much anything as long as its not repetitive. E.g you catch a robber in your house you (in court you'd say he went for you, attacked you etc etc) then you swing with you bat an catch him flush on his temple knock him out he falls into a coma and he dies. That would be fine. If you catch a robber and then grab a knife an repetitively stab him him several times killing or seriously injuring him then you'd be in trouble.
Have fun! |

in this country we have too much Human Rights. If some commits a crime, intent on causing damage etc... then they should lose their rights.
Me, if a idiot tried to burgle my home, I would get rid of it of one way or another, if I had a weapon to hand, I would certainly give him a nasty wound. |

1) yes you go to jail, particularly if you used something like a shotgun.
2) probably be done for aggravated assault.
Not good - it seems the best thing to do is to let them burgle you! |
