First, the showing of the tape was not what caused the riots. It was the verdict from the trial of the officers that caused the riots (they were acquitted). And because of the riots, the federal government stepped in and tried the officers on federal offenses (violating his civil rights). Two of the officers were found guilty and sentenced to 30 months in prison.
Would I release a tape? Yes. I would want to see that the officers that did this faced their day in court and that they get what they deserve. |

Without a doubt.
What am I supposed to do? Let those police just beat up who they like, anytime they wanted to? |

worse if kept hidden. |

The riots didn't happen until the police were found "not guilty" at the Rodney King trial so it probably wouldn't cause a riot if the police were punished for their crimes.
I would release it. |

I would sell it to the papers and make a load of money out of it, it would then be up to the papers to decide what to do afterwards, yes I am shallow and selfish but I would have thousands of pounds to spend, would`nt I.
THUMB`S AT THE READY. |

I would turn in a copy of it to that police office's internal affairs. If I didn't see results, then I'd send the FBI a copy. No, I would not use it to incite riots, two wrongs never made a right. |

I wouldn't release it because I would think of all the innocent victims who could be injured or killed in the riots. |

Certainly I would if I wanted to get innocent people killed, other people being beaten, robbery arson, and maybe a few rapes. Not to mention destruction of property and festering hatred against white people, (If the police involved were white of course) After all, it is not every day that thugs can come out into the open mob handed, create merry hell and have a bloody good laugh in daylight is it? Any excuse for a party, and they could all do with a bit of loot to swap for crack.
Incidentaly, if you filmed a bunch of black guys beating up a white man, would you put that on air too? Or isn't that news any more? |

Yes. The police get away with that sort of thing too often. One man being beaten may seem like a small thing but I bet it isn't a small thing to that man. |

Release assumes a lot in your scenario!
I would pass it to the proper authorities for investigation, but I wouldn't seek to generate a riot. |

no, i would destroy it. Black people riot every time they need a new TV. |

I sure would. There needs to be more accountability for law enforcement. |

the race riot started after the trial because people felt the officers didnt get what they diserved and the government started saying the case was a racial issue when it had nothing to do with race and thats what pretty much started the whole race thing. people thought white officers got off easy. |

UTOPIA OR BUST,

If i saw the police beating anyone up i would send it the video to the best human right lawyer of the time so they could forward it to the best orginisation. i would not just send it to some news company to show. |

I'd take it to the cops- not the TV |

WHY WOULD YOU FILM IT INSTEAD OF HELPING OUT A FELLOW CITIZEN? |
|

LadyMoonlight!!

Yes if an innocent civillian had been the victim of police brutality I would not be able to live with myself if I had proof of this but chose to withhold it. I would want to see justice done. |

I would post it all over the net NOT to cause a riot but to show that the police don't treat everyone the same (like they say they do) but then on the other hand if it was definitely going to cause a riot doing it then i would go to my lawyer and let them advise me.

Yes, if the film was the truth and showed the whole story I would think it needs to be aired. However, what I would say is that during the "secret" filming why wasnt that person filming helping the black guy against the police beating. Why didnt they step out and try to protect the black guy? Were they afraid or trying to set something up?
People may not riot, they may just want answers and an investigation into the beating. |

i would give it to the police and they could sort it out |

I'd give the film to the FEDS and let them deal with that particular police agency. PEACE! |

Fighting does not resolve fighting. This very seriuous matter needs to be dealt with by the police themselves. Approach a different policing area and inform them, ask their advice on the matter and how to proceed further.
It may also be an idea to consult a solicitor or your local MP ao even a citizens advice bureau |
