I've been employed with this company for 25 years + and the way it was handled was very unprofessional. I am a union employee and they take weekly dues but don't seem to be following up because they are inundated. Am I wrong for being upset that a firing doesn't take precedence over other issues. Most others are for people who are still employed and have benefits. And also, how can they fire you while you are on an approved disability?

The company simply stated that it was for an unapproved absence but THEY PAID ME FOR THE ABSENCE....you don't get paid unless it is approved. I met all requirements while on the job and did nothing in my 25+ years to get fired for. They fire on the spot for inappropriate behaviors and this company is so up to date with security measures, you can't get away with anything. I'm one of the few left that still have the seniority and benefits. Most have retired! I was a union steward once and you have to be able to prioritize. That is the way they trained me. It's not first come, first served always. Right now they are useless to me.

Contact your lawyer and file suit against them. You'll be amazed what you can get back. Most lawyers will do this for a percentage of what they get you and nothing up front. Good Luck!!! |

What was the firing for? They can't fire you for being on disability leave, but they might be able to fire you for actions you did while you were working.
(aside) - Some people are so pro-union, but then you hear about more and more of these stories, and I hjust have to ask what good a union really is if they don't stand up for their members. |
