i would want to spend it in cold cash, not deposit into a bank if i want the money.
otherwise, turn to the police. Don't invite yourself some legal drama. |

If it was on the side of the road, I don't see the point in returning it considering it is a life-changing amount of money. Now if I found it at work or on private property that is a different story. |

I would not put it into the bank because the bank, the IRS and the police would be questioning me as to how I got it. I would not return it if I thought it was illegal money. If it was from a Brinks truck or something like that, I'd probably turn it in. They pay finder's fees but they screw the honest people out of that, so I would negotiate that through an attorney before I gave it up. |

I'd figure out a way to wash it!!! |

Im not gonna lie, id keep it. Because it is close to impossible to tell who the REAL owner is. Anyone can just say thats my money, so it'd be a huge insult to the real owner to give it to a fraud. Finders keepers, after all |

Well i would keep it for two reasons.
One-If someone is stupid to loose a million dollars then they don't deserve to get it back.
Two-me and my wife would do alot with that money and help quite a few people out. |

If I brought it to the bank, the IRS would want to know where a million bucks came from. It would be in about 20 hiding spots in my house.
At least I would be able to fill my oil tanks for heat and hot water. |

I would turn it into police (out of fear of my concious haunting me - okay minus about 10K finder fee/ expenses) however, I fully believe that the drug folks it belonged to would never claim it, rendering it mine! :) |

No lies I'd keep it. I would never deposit it in a bank account. But I would use it wisely and try to help others who are in need.If I were to turn it into the police, they'd look at me as if I were nuts, and then try to figure out how to divy it up among those that saw it was there. but that's just my opinion. |

Finding $1 million dollars is a lot different than finding $1000, someone is going to come looking for it. Although it would seriously pain me to do so, I would turn it in. As it could be drug money, and I don't want the Mafia coming after me or it could be someone's life savings. I would certainly hope for a reward, but I wouldn't want to go through life wondering if someone was going to sneak up behind me and kill me. |

Turn it in to the police. Heck, I turned in a $1.00 at the grocery store. I found $20.00 in a store and I turned that in, but I found $20 in front of a house. I knocked on the door, no one answered, so I kept that $20.00. No one is perfect. :) |

It would probably be part of a drug deal if it was sitting by the road and that large amount of money. I wouldn't get near it, as I would probably be shot and killed right there (99% chance someone you don't see is guarding it) or tracked down if I took any. |

It would be nice to have it, but it is probably tainted money and I dont want to have it. If it was just sitting there it probably is the payment for a kidnapping and I would be killed is I made one move towards it. Or it belongs to a drug dealer. Whatever the cause, it would be associated with people that I want nothing to do with. |

Well, this is tougher than it sounds to answer. Personally, i would keep some of it, just enough to get me a new car, or house perhaps, and secure my future, and give the rest away to charity. |

For me it would depend upon where I thought the money came from. If I had reason to believe that it legally belonged to another party, obtained through legal means, then I would turn it in. Otherwise I would be robbing someone. I would hope others would do the same if I should happen to drop $1 million out of my wallet, although I don't see this happening any time soon.
If, however, I had reason to believe that it belonged to criminals and was obtained through a criminal enterprise like drugs, I would keep the money.
I wouldn't be stupid enough to deposit it in the bank though. Anything over $10,000 must be reported by the bank under federal law. I"m thinking that they would have a few questions for me. |

If you wanted to keep the money, either move would be bad. Banks have to report large transactions like that.
I'm sure I'm in the minority, but I would turn it in and hope the owner would give me a reward for finding it. |

I would not turn it in to the police, because in most cases if not claimed, you do not get it back...contrary to the movies. It goes into the general fund. I would, however, put an ad in the paper stating that if someone could tell me the approximate amount and location, I would return their money. I would put this ad weekly and wait a couple of months, then invest it in a fairly liquid investment. After a couple of years, if I had not heard of anyone losing the money, banks being robbed, etc., I would own it. The reason is that by that time, anyone who had that money by legal means would have come forth somehow, and if it was ill gotten gains, the general fund has no more right to it than I.
Oh, and investing it would have to come in small, scattered investments over time, so no flags popped up.
Those who actually think you get the money, there are very few jurisdictions where finder's keepers laws exist, except on your private property.
Glitter...you are absolutely wrong about the money being legally yours. There is NO LAW ANYWHERE IN THE COUNTRY that woul make it automatically yours. |

Turn it in. There's no way that kind of money gets lost without someone going to look for it.
In the US, in most states you can retrieve property that you found and turned into the police if 1) no one claims it, and 2) it does not turn out to be evidence of a crime. |

(In lay man terms)
Legally, if I find it on the "side of the road", it's mine.
A million dollars- that's a deposit for a place in East Central Park !!
But we're talking about 1 million dollars not a ten-dollar-bill. Someone will come to look for it !! |
