Only in your dreams I suspect. Where did you hear this? I would imagine for it to legally become yours, you need to buy it under the RTB scheme where the price is discounted. Or have I missed something here? MInd you, I believe that if you have SQUATTED in it for the same time, the situation may be different! |

No you paid rent so you were renting the accommodation, had you squatted it would be a different matter, but if you did not pay your rent, you would be evicted.
Your thinking about squatters rights which you do not have as you pay rent. |

No! If only it did!
But you can apply to buy it from your local council!
You'll be able to get it with a big discount as you've been in it for so long! |

No, not until you buy it from the council. |

No. The legislation you are referring to is commonly known as "right to buy". Your local council will have details of the scheme as it applies in your area. It has undergone many changes and is not (as far as I know) uniformly applied across England & Wales but your local authority can advise.

The only way you can claim the council house is if you purchase it under the 'right to buy' scheme.
And as you have been a tennant in that house for 28 years, you will be able to have a discount on the purchase price.
Speak to your local Citizens advice to obtain information on the right to buy scheme, and they will also tell you on how much discount you will get if you were to purchase. |

No, not a chance, but because you have been living/renting your council house for 28 years and if you ever consider buying it you should get a decent amount knocked off the value.
My mother has lived in her council house for 40 years and the house is valued at around 100k if she went in to buy it (or me, he he) then i reckon we could get it for around 35k but the only drawback with this is that you cannot sell the house for a further 5 years, good investment though. |

i don't think so |

No it doesn't. You do have the right to buy the house at a discounted price. If you have lived in the house for more than 20 years you could be entitled to around 50% discount. If you sell the house in the 1st 5 years then you have repay the discount back.
If you have been squatting in ANY property ,without the owner trying to remove you, for over 28 years and can proof that you have invested money into the property i.e new doors, painted and decorated, gardening etc., then you can go to court and claim right to the property. |

No. It's not yours unless you buy it from the council. But I would imagine that after renting it for 28 years you'd be able to buy it for a snip! |

No, of course not, unless you have opted to buy it. |

Not unless you exchange some £'s with the council under the right to buy. |
