If you support Gun Control, how would you suggest taking guns away from gang members?
|
I am strongly opposed to gun control, mainly because, it does not apply to criminals, such as gang members, burglars, bank robbers, terrorists, and other evil people.
So before you take my gun away, take them from the criminals first. (Yes, I am a law abiding citizen, and as much as I hate it, I will comply if a law is passed to give up my gun) BUT PLEASE GET THEM FROM THE GANGS FIRST !!!!! Additional Details "DEEP ! the fact that you stated that guns should be taken from violent people is exactly what gun control is. so why are you opposed to it again " is a stupid statement, because the fat is, that honets citizens do comply, while the criminals keep the guns. So, the gun control laws are not woing the way you say. It is easy to make a gun, so, criminals will always have guns. So, why take them from honest citizens?

Isnt that frustrating? Sometimes it feels like the laws are out to get the good honest citizens, instead of the criminals. Unfortunately, the way things are going, what's going to happen first is the law abiding citizens giving up their guns. There is little to be done, unless a very big change of attitude comes into play. My personal theory is that we are way too many and something huge has to happen to the majority of us, so we can start with a cleaner slate.
Sorry, but know I feel your frustration. |

By asking them to pretty pretty please with a cherry on top. Sorry I couldn't help myself, but those who favor gun control tend to think this would work with those thugs.
My idea of gun control is using both hands. |

Don't take the guns away from anybody!
Educate the people that have them, teach them how, and when, to use them and when NOT to use them.
If a few gang members start getting killed by armed civilians, they'll stop shooting at us!!
Armed robberies DROP in areas that are known to have many armed civilians. Home invasions are almost non-existent in places known to allow homeowners to shoot to kill.
New Hampshire just passed a bill to be more leanient on homeowners that kill intruders. New Hampshire has almost no home invasion problem.
I know I'll take my chances with the law. I'll kill anyone that threatens my life or my families life! There is no afterlife, so no one is going to shorten my time here because they have a gun and I don't! I'll break the law and keep my guns before I'll ever give them up! |

I am so against Gun Control myself and I have to wonder why do idiots out there think Gun Control is gonna work when only the Law Abiding will actually obey the laws.
Laws mean nothing to a Criminal and instead of making more Laws on Guns why don't we enforce the 8,000 laws we already have now instead of making more new laws.
Anything that shoots is banned in Washington, D.C. which has the Highest Murder rate in the United States (not to mention D.C. is a more dangerous place than all of Iraq). |

I just watched a great movie called Lord of War, starring Nicholas Cage. This movie was great and not what I expected at all. It's about an illegal gun runner named Yuri Orlov. There are some interesting facts given at the end of the movie regarding guns. This movie was based on actual events. The United States is one of the top five exporters of guns. Ironically, these top five nations are also permanent members of the UN. Yuri Orlov was an illegal gun runner, but he also dabbled in running guns for the US government where the government didn't want to get involved (it was too dirty for them to put their names on it). If gun control came into effect, the US would have to make a serious effort to stop all gun productions and imports, both illegal and legal. If a gun control law was implemented, then these criminals would get them from illegal sources, which the government would have to ensure that they could not do. |

If they make even stricter gun control, you know only the gad guys will have them. Our Constitution gives us the right to bear arms. They were smart, we have to be able to protect ourselves If they found a way to keep arms from criminals then I'd go for gun control, but it would nicer happen. I am very happy that finally parents go to jail if their get find their gum and has an accident |

I'm not a gun control advocate, but Europe is a good model. They didn't seem to have too big of a problem getting guns away from just about everyone. |

For a non US-citizen (I live in Europe) it is really difficult to understand that people are allowed to possess guns. You simply cannot legally buy them. You need a gun licence which is not too easy to obtain. Our criminals have guns as well, but not to the extend of gang members in the States. So I understand your point: take the guns away from the criminals first... but who decides whether someone is going to be a criminal or not? If they are convicted then they should not have a gun anyway. For a start: make a law that everyone who has committed a crime (well apart from wrong parking, etc.) is banned from having a gun. Apart from that: Why is it so important to you to have a gun? Did a gang member ever threaten you? Did you have to defend your house? Your family - yourself? |

Assuming you also believe in the right against unlawful searches, current laws are about the only way to take them away directly. Problem is, there are so many guns out there. The NRA has fought so long and hard against any kind of gun control, that easy access and great supply even to assault weapons has put them in the wrong hands more than we'd like.
Sure there is now some minor registration and waiting periods, but I can buy 50 guns today in the classifieds, claim them stolen, and sell to gangs- and to mention only one area- do you think that is realisticly stoppable?
If there were a way to control guns to gangs, the NRA would see it as against their own rights, and oppose it big time, the debate on assault weapons being a prime example.
The huge supply of guns, and the gun maker's intent to continue to expand their sales, will always keep guns as close as a breakin or gun show or ad in the paper to the bad guys
Gangs have no better friend than NRA lobbyists. |

Your question assumes that "criminals" are causing the bulk of gun violence. In fact, it is a very rare event that the person who uses a gun is a stranger or is using the gun in furtherance of committing another crime.
There is a 90% chance that you will be shot by a family member or someone you know. There is only a one in ten chance that you will be shot by a stranger in the course of a robbery.
And there is a 90% chance that you will not be shot in self-defense. 90% of bullets are fired in anger. Only one in ten is fired by someone attempting to protect himself from crime.
So there is no real reason to worry about getting guns out of the hands of some amorphous and non-existent criminal class. We will save thousands and thousands of lives every year by taking guns out of the hands of otherwise law-abiding citizens. They are the ones most likely to kill someone, not "criminals." |

Please do more research before you post statistics. Those have been proven false or from loaded samples used by many anti-gun groups.
I could go into a long debate, but the point is you lose anyway. The supreme court ruled that the Second Amendment does protect individual rights to own guns for self-defense.
And to the European fellow: You are already prohibited from possessing/buying a gun/ammo is you have ever been convicted of any felony, misdomeanor domestic violence, have a restraining order against you, have ever been ruled mentally unstable or have been committed to a mental institution for treatment, have been dishonorably discharged from the Armed Forces, or are an illegal user of drugs or addicted to alcohol.
The penalty is 10 years in prison for Prohibited Person In Possession.
Guess what, criminals still get them and use them.
Note that gun laws were originally created as a way to deprive former black slaves with a means to defend themselves against the likes of the KKK.
Note that L.A., Chicago, Washington D.C., New York, and New Jersey all have high crime rates and have had the tightest gun laws in the country. Note Phoenix has some of the lenient and has a lower crime rate despite being the 5th largest city in the country.
Notice how when the UK banned guns, gun crime went down, but stabbings and bludgeoning (which are more painful and grotesque) went up several hundred perceng.
Notice Hitler, Mao Ze Dong, and Stalin all favored strict gun control.
This is the tip of the ice. There are countless studies that prove gun control doesn't work.
If you choose not to own and learn to safely operate a firearm that is your choise, but don't impose your personal life decisions on me.
45% of U.S. homes have guns. Over 200 million guns in America.
We aren't going anywhere and neither are our guns.
By the way, the armed populace is one of the reasons no country has formally tried to raid mainland America in over 200 years. |
