City Hall or the office of the City Clerk in your community is a good place to start for the appropriate information.
The first thing you'll need to do is inquire regarding the qualifications for the office your interested in, most importantly, nominating signatures.
Even for a seat on a local City Council, in most communities, you'll need at least 100 nominating signatures from registered voters in the community, obviously this takes some networking/campaigning strategies.
There are other qualifications that are pertinent as well, such as, age requirements, residency requirements, experience, etc. You will also have to file the appropriate papers/filing fees, etc. |

City hall should be able to help you or point you to who can for local offices. You can also check with your state's secretary of state office. They would know where you need to register for state offices.
I ran for school board once, and had to file at the school district office. The only reason I knew that was because it was mentioned in an article in our local paper. |
