I would tell the manager first, but, I would make sure the owner was aware of the problem as well, and that would be the L-A-S-T time I would 'visit" that pub, or restaurant. A rodent can get into any place at most any time and especially if there has been a lot of rain - the rodents come out of the field to find dry ground. Besides, rodents are pretty common and our healthy Food and Drug commission or administration allow certain amounts to be in your food.
loaves of break are allowed a certain amount of rodent hairs as well as a certain amount of bug parts or fragments in every loaf.
Store bought milk is allowed to have around 2.5 million blood and pus cells in every 8 ounce glass - and if the cows get sicker and start putting off more blood and pus from poor management and mastitis - the FDA just raises the levels allowed ... this may be part of why the world is geting so crazy - with all the blood in their diets. I buy nothing with milk in it and use only farm fresh milk I raise myself and I hand milk.
The guys that cook your chicken and put it in a bucket for you - are allowed 1/4th pound of rat meat in every 100 pounds of chicken sold ...
Also considering that our food is so full of bugs and nasty things ... like your orange juice in the morning is allowed a certain amount of crushed and pureed maggots from flys on the fruit in the juicing company as well as the worms found in them in the field ... being picked in such vast amounts - few are inspected - it is almost impossible, it is not the same as if you went to the garden and inspected each thing you gathered ... we are talking of hundreds of thousands of fruits and veggies per person per hour -
It's in there ... so, considering these things -
You should first tell the owner or manager, and if he seems caught totally off guard -you can ask him if it would be alright to have a walk around to inspect ...
If you see rat or mouse raisins laying all over the place against the walls and backs of counter tops - call the health official.
If he says he has had a problem with them and can show you receipts from an exterminator ... tell him to call the exterminator again.
No sense trying to harm someone that is really innocent - these mouse bass turds get in places you did not even know you have places ... but;
If the guy is indifferent or you feel is lying to you to protect his buttox ... call the health inspector and also the guy that most likely does restaurant write ups as to the best places to eat or the writer that tells everyone of restaurant violations.
