County Court Claims and County Court Judgments (CCJs)

If you get a letter telling you someone is making a County Court Claim saying you owe them money, don't be alarmed. The Court will decide whether you have a debt to pay - and if so, how you should repay it - in a way that's fair to everyone.
The purpose of a County Court Claim
Someone you owe money to (a 'creditor') can take a County Court action against you to claim the money. If you pay the amount outstanding, you can avoid a hearing or judgment. If not, there'll be a simple court hearing in private. You can attend if you wish, or just send the information the court asks for by post.

The court doesn't find anyone 'guilty' or 'innocent'. It looks at the facts and decides whether you owe any money, and if so, how you should repay it.

Under Scottish law claims are dealt with differently, by the Sheriff Court.

What it means, whether you have actually been to court or not, is that someone has obtained a judgement of the court, in their favour, against you. They would be entitled to enforce this by a variety of means.

The practical effect of it is that it screws up your credit rating.

You will get more detail from the link below

It means that you already have a County Court judgement which has been made against you. These are normally for debt.

They can be made against you without your knowing if you have moved and they can't find you. If you have one it needs to be sorted out asap as ot can affect your credit score.

Rating
Normally applies to owing money. When someone hasn't paid bill or paid back monies owed, they are taken to County Court, up to a maximum of £5K. If they lose the Judge rules against them, thus having a County Court Judgement. This will seriously affect your credit rating in the future. If you don't follow the Courts Ruling then Bailiffs can seize your assets.

If you don't remember being in court & losing then it means that claimant followed all legal avenues to contact you & inform you of court date. Since you did not go, they probably had enough evidence for judge to make a judgment against you. -- If you found out about this by mail, then that would be a good start to prove that you could have been found for summons at same address should you choose to appeal this ruling.

A CCJ is normally a form of punishment - it basically messes up your credit scoring and can stop you getting loans, mortgages and even a mobile phone contract.

I don't understand why you are asking if it means you have or haven't been to court.

A CCJ is pretty straight forward, i take it, its not you with the CCJ?

Google it but i can tell you now getting credit will be very very hard!
