No, you're not. |

no your not. |

You do what you have to do for your children.
However, that is not a reason the court would accept. It won't get you off the hook. |

One Big Awfull Mistake America

How about getting a job?
work a day pay a day will even give you 50 bucks for a days works.
No excuses for stealing. |

No.
There are other ways to get food for your children. |

no, it just means that you aren't working enough hours or are spending it on the wrong thing (in america). In the US, a starving child is unacceptable here because there are many opportunities to do well and get ahead.. |

The law of the land says "no", but human compassion and reasoning says "yes". |

Nope. There are food banks, food stamps, and various other organizations that distribute food, especially to children. And, if your child goes to school, they may well be able to qualify for the free or reduced price breakfast and lunch programs.
There's no excuse for stealing from someone when there are so many other options out there, especially when it comes to children. |

if your child is starving in this country, then you aren't taking the steps to feed him or her that a responsible parent should take, whether that is getting a job, applying for food stamps or whatever.
There is no reason a kid should ever go hungry in this country. |

A lot of moralists like to pretend (or delude themselves) that moral decisions are always clean-cut and simple, that the right choice to every moral dilema is always right there in front of us, clear cut, obvious.
But in fact some moral choices are very difficult. Often we have to make a choice between two or more bad alternatives, we have to pick the least bad. The lesser of two evils. It's still an evil, but perhaps better than the alternative.
Stealing food to feed a starving child is a case like this. Usually it's hypothetical, at least in the US today, but it's certainly been a practical choice people have had to face in times past, and perhaps still do in other parts of the world.
I believe stealing is definitely wrong. But I would steal to feed a starving child, or if I was starving myself, or -anyone- who was starving if there was no alternative. I have no problem at all in admitting that I believe starving is a worse thing than stealing. |

Just ask and i'll give your child a sandwhich or something else to eat, you don't have to steal it from me. |

depends on the potentials or how much able you are to do work. |

no.
go on food stamps if you cant afford food. |

Nope, Robin Hood. You still can't steal from the rich to give to the poor. Not when there's assistance out there for starving children such as WIC, food stamps, commodities, and food kitchens that feed the homeless. |

As a civilian, no. You aren't justified in much when it comes to breaking the law. As a parent, damn right... if I had to steal because my child was starving I would do it for sure. |

Stealing is never a good idea. My dad was a minister he would get calls at all hours of the day & night. Call a local church & then if no one answers there should be a msg on the machine for other contact info. Call someone there are so many good people who want to help. But stealing could land you in jail & then your child would end up with CPS. Do the right thing by your family & ask for help. |
|

Yes, if you truly have no other choice of course your justified.
For all the people who said no lets put it another way,
if its unjustifible to steal food to feed a starving child are you saying its justifible to allow a starving child to die because its "wrong to steal"? |
|

marcelleaandbryan
|
no because there are places that you can go to get help. |
|

Dorothy K
|
No, you are not, because what you should do then is go seek out social services or welfare to help you become eligible to get food once a month from the local food shelf, and to get food stamps/Electronic Balance Transfer Card that has money on it to use for food. Stealing will not be justified. |

If there are no legal alternatives then yes but it also depends on how you go about stealing the food. |

Ethically - Yes.
Under our laws - No.
Interestingly enough, some ancient law codes
(Welsh for one), recognized starvation as a
major mitigating factor in the theft of food. |

You should be! Who wouldn't feed a starving child? |

DMG

If it is the only way to feed your children then yes you can steal the food with a clean conscience. |

Just get on welfare or foodstamps. |

If your child is starving I would say get off your lazy *** and get a job. If you have a job and cant cut it then you need to be moving to a cheaper house, getting rid of the satelittle tv, and getting rid of the internet. If a person has time to sit around on yahoo answers and their kid is starving I dont know but there is something wrong with that picture |
|

myy name is...
 |
under gods law yes but not under the actuall law.God would understand that you had to do that but I don't think the law will |

andy

you guys are all mostly idoits, you all live in your 1st world countries and think that any one who is stealing food is lazy... wow educate yourselves because not every countriy in the world has the infrustructure and governmental support... |
|

shannon

Well Andy, that is hypocritical of you. Every country may not have an infrastructure, like the one I'm in. Swaziland. They are going through some tough times are they not. That doesnt mean the only way out is to steal. There are things called fruit trees. There is something called humanity. Lots of people will help. Yoiu just need to settle your pride and ask. |
