You really should seek medical help. It is HIGHLY doubtful that enough smoke will drift into the lobby to make you sick. If you are indeed ill you need to discover the actual cause.
If there really is a huge build up of smoke coming in from outside you should have the hotel check their heating/air conditioning system, it is not working properly if it is not keeping this under control. |

Wear a respirator on your face. |

You are sick from 2nd hand smoke drifting in from outdoors? Show me scientific evidence that states 2nd hand smoke inhaled at the minute quantities describe causes any short term illness. Given the time of year and your direct contact with many different people there is near a 100% chance your short term illness is from a virus or bacteria spread through contact like a hand shake or handling the same credit card as an ill person.
I promise you, your illness is not from 2nd hand smoke. |

First of all, wafting smoke from outdoor smokers will not affect your respiratory functions. You are subjected to much higher pollutants by merely walking down a city street, or breathing the air in a commercial kitchen. |

as a former smoker i can actually see this from both sides (the smell makes me feel queasy). my suggestion would be for you to talk to management about a door fan, like the ones at grocery stores used to keep the bugs out. since it blows air outside it will keep the smoke from drifting in.
the new law in CA is you have to be 20' away from a door - i think it's getting ridiculous! it is legal to smoke, let them do it. they are outside, there is air circulation, the concentration of smoke should not be enough to make you sick. if you truly believe it is the cigarette smoke making you sick you need to talk to your doctor about it because there must be some underlying factor that is making you ill. |

Wear a gas mask or a face mask like in hospitals. Someone will take the hint eventually and you will NOT be sick. I hate smoke too. It gives me migrains like you wouldn't believe. Some people just don't give a **** about others. |

I would see if the Hotel can't maybe move the smoking section somewhere other than the front door. |

if your lungs truly "cannot take it" then you need to find a different place to work.
the world is not about to revolve about you.
it's possible that you are particularly susceptible. in which case, it's your problem, not theirs.
it's also possible that it's all in your head. but we know better. there's nothing in your head.
personally, i think Jenessa has it right.
suggest that all of the other hotel guests would appreciate it if there was a fan that kept the smoke out of the lobby. |

I know in Oklahoma it is the law that smokers must stay at least 20 feet from any intrance. There may be similar laws in your area. Bring it up with your boss or hotel owner. |

Tough one. I think you're screwed until cigarettes are illegal. Maybe you could speak with management about creating a smoking area that will not allow smoke to readily enter the building, or start a policy that you cannot smoke within 50 ft of the entrance. |

Well, some states regulate the distance you can be from the building, perhaps you live in one of those states and can have your manager check it out? Or ask for the smoking area to be moved away from doors? Either way, you should at least discuss it with your manager, I'm sure some non-smoking guests have felt the same. |

Point out the dangers to your manager with second hand smoke, fly away ashes and the litter issue. Ask for a designated smoking area further away from the front door and move the ashtrays. Smokers usually are more accomodating than you think! |

Stop being such a wuss!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you don't like your job find another.
There should be laws against your whining, your weakness both mental and physical and against your wanting the government to use its power (law) against people just trying to have a smoke. |
