In California, what are the first steps I need to take to start a lawsuit against a web-design company. I think I'm over the small claims amount. I'll also be doing this all by myself. Where do I need to go?

You won't be able to take this to small claims court; this will require an attorney who will need to seek damages in civil court. I would try and speak with the web design company and let them know what you're planning to do. Not to mention you can also do some serious WOM (word of mouth) damage to the company; sites like ripoffreport.com, the BBB and more can cause great harm to a company. Try to resolve this with the web design company or seek an attorney; this cannot be taken to small claims court. |

Personally I hate the idea that every problem accident or not is somebody's fault and that there is always someone to blame and sue.
I dont like the compensation culture that has become a big part of so many courts to the point where lawyers advertise if there might be someone you want to sue.
I have no idea how you would start a lawsuit in california but before you do try to think about whether it is right because legal and right are two different things. |

Small claims is a maximum of 5 grand. I think. I would go find a lawyer's office, but they cost a lot of money. My teacher's a lawyer and she makes 500/hr. I would recommend googling paralegals! |
