In reference to the woman accused of murdering the 8 year old girl in California. Do you think the DA is?

putting all of the focus on the easiest, closest suspect? Should he investigate further, or is he feeling the public pressure of this heinous crime, and feels he simply has to close the case quickly?
The news reports make her seem guilty/likely. But remember the rape case with the four team members a couple of years ago? Because the accusation was horrific, the prosecutor (Nifong?) went full bore after the suspects, viewing all evidence with a bias from very early in the case. Then it turned out they were innocent, their lives ruined.
And just this week the there has been a program on about the "witch hunts" in California, where several people were jailed for 15 to 20 years for crimes that never occurred. (A set of famous child molestation cases.)
So do you think this is a woman who knows the family and just happens to have some low level social problems/misdemeanors. There must be dozens like her within 20 miles. And alternate version; woudn't the "real killer",committingg a crime of opportunity, steal a suitcase from a home nearby?
So is she innocent until proven guilty? And in a real way, in the conduct oftheh DA and cops investigating.

Edit: The college case was about 3 lacrosse players at Duke accused of raping a dancer at a campus party.

"Tunnel investigation" is a HUGE problem in high profile cases.
Many of the hundreds of people exonerated by the efforts of the innocence project and similar groups were singled out as "obviously guilty" early on. In many cases police or DA's actually ignored or even suppressed contradictory evidence because it didn't fit their preconceived decision.

All we know right now is that it was her suitcase, and that she claimed to have reported the suitcase stolen although the police deny that she made this report. We don't know what the autopsy results show, beyond that the little girl was apparently raped, and we don't know what evidence was gathered at her house and at the church. It would be only speculation for us to say that the DA did a great job, or that the DA rushed to judgement against the easiest target. |

i mean the girl was a friend of her daughters and it was her suitcase that she was found in the police investigators made the arrest after their interview with the woman because of the story she told them they believed they had probable cause that was on cnn earlier Tonite with the investigatorr telling why he arrested her for murder. |

I do remember the case of the Duke LaCrosse players.
The thing to remember here is that we have no idea at this point what evidence (aside form the fact that it was her suitcase) the DA has.
Is she innocent until proven guilty in the eyes of the DA and the police? No. It's not their job to presume innocence, it's their job to prove guilt, it the defense attorneys job to prove innocence, and the jury's job to PRESUME innocence until guilt is proven.
These days though, trial by media is becoming more and more prevelant.....sad but true. |
