ok i have some questions about this because it really confuses me.
I normally say "I'm white" to people, but my grandmother is from Hawaii, and some of her ancestors were chinese and okinawan labour workers. She is not pacific islander, but she is white/asian. and she said she always called herself white.
1.)would it be illegal to check "white" when you are black? cuz technically most blacks in America are actually part white but it most of the time it was from their ancestors being raped. Maybe a black person just wants to be identified as white.
2.) What would happen if an asian or black person wanted to check "white"?
what if a white person wanted to check "asian" or "black"?
3.) Would you have trouble with the law?
4.)Is it based on identity, or based on actual genetics?
5.)If you don't identify as one race, are you allowed to check the "other" box as a race?
6.) Is there a specific law on what you should check on the census/job application, if so, what is the law called so i can read it? thank you

Apparently it's based on whichever race you identify with. President Obama checked "African American" alone on his census. That's blatantly false.
There is no law about boxes. There are rules about when you can claim benefits for being a race. In those cases it is 1/4 or 1/8, whatever. Whether you are or aren't then falls to the judgement of the governing body. You can be in trouble for an outright lie in these cases, but not if you gave the answer in good faith.
I think it raises a bigger question; why do we even ask? Particularly the census. What's the point? It's interesting, but the more you think about it, the whole thing is kind of silly. I mean, you're right. What makes someone a race? How far back do you have to be pure? Since we're all from the same basic group anyway, there must be some kind of line someone is drawing. |

Fill it out however you consider yourself. There's no blood test to verify anything.
Example: Obama considers himself black, when half of his genes are white. |

Basically the only reason they have such questions on a job application is because of 'equal opportunity' it means that if they're aren't enough black people working there, then some have to be hired. Regardless of who is more qualified.
Since your not black you can choose which ever you'd like, as many employers don't pay attention to it. |

They would never know. The point of the census is to find out how many of each race there is in the country, state, city, etc. Your the one giving them their stats so how would they ever know? |
