With the American dream came the classic American downfall. People invested millions and millions of dollars into Enron, and when it was all revealed to be a huge fraud, so many Americans lost their life's savings. It was a risk they were willing to take to attain the "American Dream" and they bet wrong. |

Greedy people overreached. Overzealous prosecutors that wanted to win at all costs, greedily prosecuted the defendants.
A judge that wanted to make a big name, over-sentenced them.
In other words, everyone wanted way too much and made it out of nothing except overreaching. |
