Is Suicide Illegal? You can't punish someone who's dead, and a failed suicide isn't suicide. What say You?

Doesn't a failed suicide call for an arrest? Whatever the case, it's wrong. You don't punish persons who're depressed and want to die. You get them help. On the otherhand, if a failed suicide isn't suicide why is this illegal in some countries? It makes little sense.

Attempting suicide is illegal. You can be arrested and convicted, however most of the time a person who gets arrested for attempted suicide is committed to a mental hospital.

y would suicide be illegal, it also depends on which state u live in some states it is legal n some its illegal, but the fact is how could it be illegal n how can the govern., put a stop to suicide if it was illegal ppl would still commite suicide!!

i agree however attempted murder is a crime and therefore, no matter who it is attempted on by whom, it is still illegal

what i say is nothing is worth taking your life over no matter if its against the law or not that's immaterial your right you cant punish some one who is dead but think about the punishment you are leaving behind for the people that love you ,grief is a severe punishment

attempted suicide, is a cry for help, if someone succeeds in killing themselves, their family, friends, and society are the ones punished.

Yes there is a law against it. Of course you can't go to jail for it but if you succeed your family cannot collect life insurance benefits.
Also there is a higher law to answer to once you have left this life.

it is illegal regardless if the person is dead or not. a person who is caught attempting suicide will either be in jail later or counseling by rule of court.

I think they make a punishment out of it, to buy some time to convince the person otherwise/get them help. 2. People who go nuts, sometimes don't put other people in perspective and kill themselves in a manner that will cause problems for society, say someone throws themself off a building, well are there people walking below? Are there cars? Their selfish line of thinking can hurt innocent people who love life and living.

i do believe they can house in an institution if you attempted suicide or have intense thoughts of it though i'm not too sure about the thoughts part, if you do attempt it, you're intitutionalised.

Suicide is not illegal, Attempted suicide is illegal.
Attempted suicide is a failed suicide. Thus punishments are given to those who attempt suicide.

The attempt is illegal. Try it and see how fast they lock you up. With a quickness for sure and you stay gone for a mandatory 72 hours with constant supervision, even in your sleep!

Suicide is illegal, at least in the USA. It's just like any other crime, you have to pay the consequences for if you are alive and get caught.

How can it be illegal? Its not like someone would commit suicide and the police will come to their door and say "you are under arrest". If you are caught attempting it, the first thing they would do is put you into therapy.

y u wanna do suicide? I agree that the person needs to b sent to a mental hospital, punishing the dead is impossible, life's precious, and i pray that people be more mentally mature and not commit suicide.

well in some places attempting suicide is illegal and you have to spend a minimum of 3 days in a mental hospital

yes it is you have not paid your debt to the people who have paid into your training to assume your position in society in essense you are stealing from all the people who valued you enough to feed cloth and educate you at there exspense and expect you to pay it back with a liftime of work . and service to your communitty. -by killing yourself you commit the most terrible of all crimes to your fellow man failing to do your part by sherking your duty when you are able to do so by killing yourself .selfishness should be a crime too. if you fail we invest more in you mental health counseling isnt cheap and fixing the mess you are running away from is also costly so do your part and live a long and productive life.whatever bothers you work to change it and maybe you will feel better about living.

True, True and True! We can have our animals put to sleep, we can pull the plug on 'vegatable' stated people.
But if we choose to PERSONALLY want to CHOOSE what to do with ourselves we get committed, locked up...
That in it's self is suicide in the mental form...

If a person supposedly has the freedom to make there own decisions then why do we put them in behavior modification programs because they want to try and end their pathetic existance???

well yea it is illegal... there was this chick that jumped off this bridge a few miles away some how she diddnt die and got arrested... Or a while back ago this man left all his gas stove on and the whole house exploded except the couch he was sleeping on he also got arrested sooo.. yea it is haha
