No, and they are ridiculous, just because they were in NY doesn't mean those people are New Yorkers. We don't get scared that easily. They really need to get over it.

Being afraid is not generally grounds for a lawsuit. Class actions are appropriate for lawsuits when many plaintiffs are quite similarly suited and there are little differences between them. When it comes to emotional stability that is most assuredly not true. Then there is the question of whether the class could prove that anyone had done anything wrong. Being harmed is not grounds for a lawsuit. Being harmed by unlawful or negligent actions is grounds for a lawsuit. However, the United States had appropriate permission for the flight and thus did nothing wrong. In addition, there is the whole problem of sovereign immunity. |

No reason (and you wouldn't win anyway) without monetary hardship.
But for instance, you had to go to the local shrink to get over it, then you get the bill. One could sue for that, but doubt strongly one would win. There are "scares" we all have to deal with on a continuing basis and it's part of life. If that wasn't the case, then everyone would sue the IRS for "emotional stress" of any fear of being audited. [g]
So actually the answer is YES they could sue, but no they wouldn't win. |
