discrimination has a place. would you allow an all muslim jury in the trial of a gay man? or a convicted paedophile to teach children. would you let an MP into your home and leave it unattended.

The general concenus today is that it's OK to discriminate ONLY if you are discriminating against White people.

However any form of discrimination is wrong, even "positive" discrimination.

I do not support discrimination of any sort because of its unfairness, invariably to people who least deserve it.

Morally, I can see no problem with choosing to associate, employ, or interact with people based upon the choices they make.

I, for one, would not (for example) associate with, employ, or interact with a Neo-nazi, because I find their world view utterly repellent. I have made a choice that their mentality is fundamentally incompatable with my own.

If I make this choice, I have to respect the right of others to make their own decisions, based upon the ideology of others - however that might turn out.

(And I do mean CHOICES, not race)

I assume you mean negative discrimination ? I don't think its ever Ok to be negatively discriminatory. It may be a fact of life that it happens but we should all try harder not to discriminate, otherwise how will we ever get along ? Live & let live, as far as possible.

As for positive discrimination, such as hiring police officers from ethnic minorities when there are better qualified candidates who are not from a minority background ? It needs to be handled very carefully, so as to minimise resentment from anyone who is passed over because they are not from a minority. At the same time, a certain degree of this type of postive discrimination is useful in a wider context because it can help to integrate communities when they see they are part of "the establishment".

Generally not. The Civil Rights Act prohibits discrimination based on religion in the areas of employment, housing, public accommodations, etc. for any business operating in interstate commerce. The Constitution prohibits such discrimination by the government. When you say culture that's a little more vague. Certain aspects that could be defined as "culture" could be legitimate grounds for discrimination -- perhaps cleanliness or attire at the work place. On the other hand, any trait that falls under the umbrella of ethnicity or religion is protected.

it's called positive discrimination and it happens all the time and unfortunately is legal.
Certain government departments advertise for positions to be filled and issue a statement asking for certain religious or cultural sectors as they are under represented.
This means the best qualified people do not always get the post and ultimately everyone suffers, even the underrepresented person who ends up stressed and under pressure

Even though I'm guilty of this, I now see that it isn't. Now I should focus on the question that was asked. Only respond with the answers I think would be appropriate. Their Faith is there choice and I did have a choice in mine. Also, now that it's own my mind. I did swear by this, years ago in my oath for Military service. Even if I'm Retired Air Force. Some ideas and concepts hold true and the price one pays strikes me more, trust me it does. I'm alluding to: "I don't have to respect, like, or care what you think. I'm willing to DIE so that you have the right to think it!" Good philosophy to have. Harsh and blunt, but adapting that helps.
Adding: In response to a question, I post this for them to think! Nobody, according to Noah's ark, is really White. I just wished this Pharisee of "I see White people" would be in my lifetime, but sadly no! I'm a Heinz 57 and race or ethnicity doesn't make who a person is. Their environment, etc, etc, and etc. are the major deciding factors now, isn't it and "I be what I be!" God's not of any race, since He's a Great Spirit now, isn't He. It is never ok to deiscriminate for any reason. Unfortunatly people can think of many reasons to discriminate. Everyone should be accepted for who they are and what they are. My moto if I don't agree with how someone else lives is: As long as it doesn't interfere with my life and they don't try to push their beliefs on me, I don't care what they do.

It is actually called cultural racism and it is still racism. It is wrong to discriminate, period. The way you carry yourself should be all that matters. It shouldn't matter where you live, the clothes you wear, the car you drive, the religion you practice, etc.. However, it does matter to the majority of the world as we know it, so we have to deal with it. It is however, not OK, and should never be accepted as OK.
