Is it Illegal for an employer to force your claim status on your taxes?

Recently we had a meeting with our owner of the company. He said do to the economic times and he was in trouble for back taxes he was going to have the secretary change all of our income tax filling to claim 8 dependents so it's less taxes for him to pay and if we don't like it we can leave. I find this unfair because then we are all going to owe thousands on next years taxes. Of course everyone is afraid to fight this because we don't want to lose our jobs with the way the economy is.Any suggestions on what we can do to fight this with out losing our jobs.

I would visit the local IRS office and take anything in writing that you can find. This man is asking you to commit tax fraud, which result in all of you going to jail and him walking away. If you can't get anything in writing get a couple of witnesses to take to the IRS with you.
It sounds like he has committed tax fraud and wants you to become involved in it. There is no way in he** that I would do this loosing your job is a lot better than winding up in federal prison for tax fraud.
If everyone at this company starts claiming 8 dependents after only having one or two this is going to send up red flags all over the place and trigger audits on everyone that does it, at the very minimum, where they are going to ask for proof why you are claiming so many dependents.

Call the IRS. The number of dependents you claim doesn't affect what he owes; he owes based on your salary. He's up to no good.

Send an anonymous letter to the IRS and let them take care of it.
