Just as long as you aren't passing it off as new or misrepresenting them as antiques when they're not, there is nothing illegal. |

no, why in the world would that be wrong....wow, your neighbour is just jealous that you have the talent to do that and that you have found a way to make more money...forget him...good luck! |
|

:-)
 |
I don't see why it would be. People do things like this all the time..its called Ebay! LOL. I'm thinking that your neighbor just doesn't want to hear you making noise (sawing, hammering..etc) and is just being a putts about it. You just can't list the items on Craigslist as "New"..but you CAN list them as "Restored" or "Refurbished." I hope this helps! |

your neighbor is an idiot and probably jealous that he/she can't do something like that |

no its not. if you buy furniture, its yours to do what you want with it. tell your neighbor to shove it |
|

Clueless
|
No it's not illegal. Your neighbor needs to butt out of your business. |

no, its the same as selling a used car, your neighbor is probably jealous. If you buy it you can sell it! |

Why the heck would it be ILLEGAL? I'msorry, but, that does NOT make any sense to me what so ever. Thrift shops are just shops are have cheaper stuff..and you are fixing it up. what makes it illegal?
thats like saying that me going to garage sales and buying stuff..and then going and selling it on ebay is illegal?
No- its not illegal..its great business practices is what I would call it! |
|

|
No its not because your buying the item, it would be illegal if your stealing the item and selling it.

why would it be its like havin a yard sale |
|

|
i wouldn't think so |

 |
I don't think it would be, you are working on the items fixing them up then you are adding value and deserve to be paid for your efforts. |
|

.
 |
Its no different than people who buy things at yard sales and resell them on ebay. Your income should be taxed thats all. |

Millions of people do that everyday this ain't Afghanistan |

Depends on what you mean by "find". If you buy the furniture, fix and sell that is perfectly legal although your city may require a business license if you sell a certain amount. |
|

dougeebear
 |
Why on earth would it be illegal? You bought the item. You own the item. You can do whatever you want with the item.
I suppose legality might enter into it if you consider it a home-based business. But you sound more like a hobbyist. You won't have tons of traffic coming to your door.
In my opinion, there is nothing illegal about it. |

JUSTME

No, not at all. You are lucky you have the talent and ability to earn a few extra dollars this way. |

Not unless you are violating some city ordinance that keeps you from doing something along those lines (it happens occasionally).
Keep in mind that you MUST report your income from this (and pay taxes on it), and if your jurisdiction requires a business license, you MUST get one. |

It is not illegal. If you purchase the item from the thrift shop, it is yours and you have the right to fix it and resell it.
However, any money you make from these sales does need to be reported on your tax return as earned income. |

If you buy the furniture it is yours to do what you want with. You may want to check with your tax man about legalities regarding how much income you are receiving from the sale of the furniture. He would be the one to talk to. Just remember to have the buyer sign something that lists the piece as is so no one can come back and claim that you sold a used/repaired piece of furniture as new. |

I'm thinking no it isn't illegal, once you buy it it's yours, also be sure to give details as to the condition(refurbished) is usually good enough |

Hell no its not illegal..If someone liked it enough to give it away for free, your doing the creator a favor and reviving the soul of there lose piece of work creating a sense of pure balance in the universe and saving the world! Go for it dude, make that Santa man proud! |

NO WAY! IT ISN'T ILLEAGAL!
I purchase clothing from thrift stores, turn them into anime costumes, and make money from that.
I don't know where I'd be without a little extra income!
Keep at it! |

hellz no ..people do that all the time. Well, not furniture. We have to eat too ya know. It's not like youre illegally distributing licensed goods. Just think of it this way. If this was illegal, ebay would be out of business. done deal. |
|

Rusty

If you buy the furniture at a thrift shop it is yours to do with as you want. You can burn it or fix it up and resell it at a profit. Once you buy it, no one has anything else to say about it.
It's yours. |
|

Chrys
|
no it's not illegal, as long as you're disclosing the extra income to the IRS. |
|

messijessi
 |
Heck no!!! That's crazy, this is America, you can make a profit off of stuff, you're probably supposed to turn it in on your taxes, but most ebayers don't turn it in. |
|

If you purchase an item, and fix it, it's not illegal to then resell it. You own it and can legally sell it. Now if you are selling furniture that belongs to the thrift shop on craigslist, then it's theft. |
|

If you mean "take away unknowingly" from the donation spot I would say that it is definitely unethical, I dont know about the legality however it was on the Thrift Store property at the time of taking. If find means "purchase from" the restore it and then sell it then it is not illegal. |
