Murder, be legal definition, is the unlawful taking of another human life. Taking your own doesn't qualify.

However, in some places attempted suicide is illegal. Which makes very little sense.

"You tried to kill yourself! So as punishment, we'll do it for you!!"

Wow, that makes tons of sense. Regardless, the actual act of suicide isn't illegal, and simply can't be, because how could it be enforced? Make a leap with medical technology in order to bring the person back to life and charge them with a felony?

In New York there is a law on the books prohibiting suicide. Successful suicides of course cannot be prosecuted, but unsuccessful ones can and are.

I don't think it would even matter! u'll be dead already & no one else will get punished for somethin' u did to "yourself". The only damage that will happen is to all the people who love you, ur family & close friendz in ur life will be devistated, & why do people even kill themselvez? to release themselvez from pain?? Anything u "dont" know &never faced before iz definitly much worse that anything here, whatever u go through in life, u have ppl who can stand by you, or find ppl who can help, kill oneself iz NEVER the solution..
Even in alot of religionz, especially Islam, prohibitz suicide & whoever killz themselvez will go to hell. & whatever u go through in life iz nothing compaired to that .. Suicide iz forbidden becoz our life iz not ourz, God gave it to us for a reason. & will take it away when "he" wants. & breaking that will send us straight to hell. you got problemz, talk to someone, think ur life through, confide in a friend, a family member, nothing is undefeatable once u put ur mind to it, u can also contact a shrink or any mental hospital to try n'help solve whatever'z making u feel sad.
Life iz full of optionz & having "faith" alone will make u feel happy no matter how bad thingz are .

It is against the law. Its is murder but its called suicide since its against yourself. Many people believe that you will forever stay in pergatory or hell, as do i. You actually get punished but you family and friends have to deal with the loss.

In Canada, no, it was taken out of the Criminal Code in 1968. Up to then it was referred to as the only crime you could be punished for if you were unsuccessful in committing it. In my opinion they should have left it alone. Before if someone attempted suicide, they could be held under a Lieutenant Govenors warrent for 30 days observation and maybe get the help they needed. Now all the Medical attendent can do is ask them to stay in the hospital of their own free will to try and help them.

there is a penalty assigned to every type of murder including suicide. Failed suicide attempts will result in something along the line of attempted murder. Successful suicides will typically have the victim put thru a post-mortem trial for his own death. The result would be a felon in the family tree and a stigma to an otherwise pitiful life.
