Is it constitutional to censor the media?
Find answers to your legal question.

Is it constitutional to censor the media?

Would it violate any of the amendments to censor body image in the media?

And if you say that " it is perfectly legal to censor the media", what problems would be caused by this?
Additional Details
Example: In media, there are many glamour models and actresses that are airbrushed. They look really good, but are kinda thin.

However, this can cause girls to become insecure and try to emulate these models. They become anorexic, depressed etc.

That is why some say the media should be censored regarding body image. If this were to happen, would it violate the constitution?

MP US Army
It violates the intent of the 1st amendment.

This is the kind of question on which lawyers make whole careers.

You can pre-censor the media by not answering questions if they ask. You cannot post-censor the media for any information they got legitimately and published. You can sue the pants off the media if they publish something about you that is clearly incorrect and is bad enough to open them up to charges of libel or slander.

It is also constitutional to censor the media in some cases where national security is involved. However, having said that, GWB over-used that authority (IMHO). And finally, if the media openly advocates violent overthrow of the US Government, it would be perfectly legal to censor them, censure them, and arrest them for Treason.

Not sure what you mean by "censor body image" - we would need a few more specifics than this.

Not as long as the Constitution contains the First Amendment. The media has the freedom of speech, with a few exceptions, just like anyone else in America.

Bob
The media is already censored.
