No. I find the ones I know to be affable. Just keep in mind that public defenders have high case loads. They're almost always in a rush. Just keep your conversations direct and you'll get along fine. :)
It will help to take notes, so you can remember things s/he explained later, if you have an emotional stake in this case. Also, write down Qs you have for the attorney as they come to you, so you can get them all answered quickly.
Public defenders get a undeserved bad rap. Most clients don't realize that the real work that is put into their case is in the reading (all the paperwork filed in their case and all the research into case law and precedents), and the writing (of all the motions); not actually talking to them. The truth is, PDs get more trial time than most private lawyers, and spend most of their time working out plea agreements for narcotics charges. They love the chance to win one. If you're really innocent; they're the ones you want. :) |

I NEVER FOUND IT TO BE HARD. JUST SHOW HIM RESPECT AND ASK IF YOU MAY ADD THIS OR BRING UP YOUR POINTS. AND IF YOUR WANTING TO FIGHT THE CASE... YOU BETTER REALLY KNOW HOW TO SWEET TALK OR DO THE WORK YOURSELF. BECUASE THEY WORK FOR THE STATE, NOT YOU :-) |
